Is it right to haggle on a property to rent? Can it work?

My Maximum is £800 a month but seen lovely ones for £850, do you think I could get this down?

You can only ask!£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
Yeah we offered £100 per month less than advertised and it was accepted.0

Agreed, you have nothing to loose from offering.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

It really depends on demand in your area, if houses let quickly then it wont work, it demand is slow then it might.
As landlords cannot get reduced council tax during voids this may encourage negotiation.0 -
Yes ! I rented a couple of places and negotiated both of them down on initial rent. And I also rejected the yearly rises and negotiated on them too.
After the final rise which I didn't think was fair I told her I was leaving, and she offered to sell me the place. Er, no.0 -
I agree with the others, you can only ask. I believe that it very much depends on the area. Where I live it is not unheard of for people to offer more than the requested rent! A few weeks ago we looked at a property that was on offer for £725 PCM. We put an application through and the agency informed us that the landlord was very interested in our application but would now request £750 PCM! Errr, no thanks!0

Definitely worth it. One of my mates rented a house in which the decoration in a couple of rooms was a bit tatty, got a rent discount in exchange for them painting the rooms. Also know of someone that got a discount for committing to a 12 month tenancy (6 or 12 was being offered). Plenty of bartering to be done!0
