New Contract - What do you think?

Hi all,

I've been with Singlepoint for several years and they have now been taken over by Vodafone, it seems.

Every year, when I have upgraded my phone, I have received it free of charge.

Due to my work (I'm a freelancer), I like to keep the same number and love the coverage that you get with Vodafone. For the past two years, I've been on a contract that gives me 100 mins anytime cross-network and 50 texts and have had the Nokia 7210. Line rental £23 and VAT £4. So £27.

Last year, there was so much going on that I didn't upgrade. So after two years, I thought it was about time that I did - besides, my phone has nearly had it!

When I called them yesterday, I asked for more text messages and something along the lines of a Motorola V600.

He offered me 100 mins anytime cross-network plus 100 texts for £28. When it came to the actual phone, he offered me the new Motorola V550 but he said it would cost me £20!!!! Unless, I took out their insurance...in which case I would get the phone for free plus one month's line rental.

I asked if I could have a different phone that was free and he said "well there aren't any, really ". I explained that I hadn't had a new phone for two years and that never before was I expected to pay!! He then said my Nokia phone was probably very cheap, to which I pointed out that when I first received it, it was valued at around £200 - £300.

I asked how much the insurance normally is and he replied "£7.00" (a month). I also asked if I would be legally bound and he said no, I could stop the insurance at anytime, if I wish. Yes, I do plan to end it immediately!

In the end, I needed a new phone, wanted to keep my old number and stay with the Vodafone netwrok. Yet, i feel like I've been pushed into a corner, just so the salesman could get his commission for selling me the insurance. As no doubt, that's how it works.

My phone is due to arrive today and I was told that I have 14 days to cancel if I want to.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

Cancel, get your PAC code port to PAYG then port back to Vodafone, which would let you get a new customer phone price.

And Vodafone Customer Service don't get comission on what they sell/offer you.*

*(if they did i would be loaded).

I would definatley cancel take your pac code and start on a new offer, you seem to have got a very stingy person for your upgrade, they (singlepoint/vodafone) offered me 100 mins anytime any network and 50 texts for £15 a month and the samsung d500 for £30 considering the tariff i jumped at it and that was back in january so they could have offered you much better.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Or request your PAC in writing and wait for the phone call that will give a very generous offer to try and keep hold of you
2p off is still 2p off!
  • I would port your number to PAYG then back to Vodafone. Plenty of good offers about - E2Save have the Nokia 6230 on Anytime 200 for £9.99pcm plus free headset plus £10 back - if you buy through Rpoints a further £15 back or get someone to refer you for £15.

I've been on Vodafone for several years and every year contact them to get a better deal with them when my contract expires. Last year (March) I got a Motorola V525 together with 100 mins and 50 texts for £15 inc VAT. I'm due to do battle again but not sure which phone to go for and looking for a good deal as well, so far they haven't offered me a better deal so PAC will be have to be asked for shortly!

I got my husband a new deal with Orange for 200 mins and 50 texts for £15 in February. He doesn't need loads of texts. I got him the Sony Erickson T700i.

The I challenged O2 and got 200mins and 300 texts for my son for £15 a month in March together with Sony Erickison S700 :).

So the deal you have been given so far I don't think is a good one!
