HI , I am currently with three on a 30day rolling sim only deal .I tried to get an s4 on upgrade(over the phone) but the offer was no better than walking into the high street shop so I requested my pac code .
1 hour later three phone me back and try to get me to upgrade but still not budging on price as I need to keep my number .They put me through to new contracts to see what they can do for me .
Now they offer me a fairly good deal and I agree but explain I need to keep my number so the guy tells me I have got to get a free three pay as you go sim card and get them to transfer my old number onto my new pay as you go sim card ,once it has transferred I then phone again and get them to transfer old number onto my new S4 contract phone .
It all sounds a bit complicated but is this right ? ,I hope it is ive agreed to it !!
thanks for reading and hope to get a reply.

yes - sounds about right - they're basically transferring the number 'off contract' - and then they'll port it back in and replace your new number.
I didn't realise that they could/would do it with their own PAYG though? I've done it a few times before, porting out to alternative companies and then back to my original network for my new contract.

worst case I guess you could always PAC the (then) PAYG number to someone else - then back to your new 3 contract....just an extra step I suppose...

Three fouled up when I transferred a Three PAYG number to a Three contract SIM.

I spoke to Customer Services asking how to transfer the number as going via the PAC route appeared to be more related to swapping numbers between network providers... CS said they could do the swap themselves, however it took nearly a month to sort out their errors and was only resolved with a complaint to Three's CEO Office (who were excellent and not based in India). They credited me a month's free use as compensation for not being able to use my old number for 3 weeks.

As suggested by Three themselves, I would opt for going via the PAC route as you can enter the details directly yourself via a "3" App, or at least you can on the iPhone "3 App" and I assume there is a similar one for Android.
