Redundancy - Unfair Selection??!

My husband is was told last week that he will be made redundant. He has been at the company for 7 years and was initially employed as a builder. 4 years ago he was moved to the plumbing team and has worked there ever since. Totally different jobs and different pay too. (His SRP has been worked out based on his plumbing 'piece work' wage)
When his letter arrived it stated that 3 (of 6)builders are being made redundant. Following this, at his Consultation Meeting he made the HR reps aware that he isn't a builder and has been in a plumbing role for the past 4 years. He was then told that his scoring matrix wouldn't be relevant as he isn't a builder. Redundancy is still happening.
Based on this information:
1. can he be made redundant if he hasn't been doing the building job for the last 4 years? Technically the job is already redundant as no-one has been doing it. This creates no savings whatever as far the 'building' team goes
2. How can he be fairly scored against the other builders if they are doing the job and he isn't?
3. Is this classed as unfair selection?
NB I understand the post is made redundant, not the person etc etc! Does this strengthen his case as he shouldn't even have been part of the process?

Judy Pink, your posts on this and the other threads, are a breach of the forum rules and have been reported.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Sorry to hear your news. The questions are well beyond my knowledge unfortunately, but I didn't want to leave the thread without wishing you well.
I had some good advice from the legal advice line that comes as part of my house insurance, and some good advice on here too.0 -

I noticed she was fond of that particular company too!0 -
I also notice that the only three cases she has replied to is a first post by a newbie. A cynic might think it is a set up purely for advertising purposes.I'm a retired employment solicitor. I've reported the spam too - and at least one has been removed.
However, marlot has quoted the spam in full - so I'm reporting that now.
By the way "she" (jp) tried spamming on behalf of that organisation earlier in the year too and the posts were removed.0 -

Well it couldn't have been very urgent/important if it has taken you 12 days to come back and read the responses :cool:I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Why are you so rude??? We have a tiny baby as well redundancy to deal with. So who are you to question how important/urgent my issue is, especially since you haven't given any constructive replies. In which case, I don't exactly see what this has got to do with you.
I appreciate your role 'mine-sweeping' for spam but your sarcasm and rudeness really is uncalled for. You should be ashamed...0
