Santander 123: MSE thinks I will get rejected!

Hi all,

I am interested in applying for the Santander 123 Cashback Credit Card. As a precautionary, I did the quick credit check offered by this site and it predicted that I have only a 20% chance of success!

Can this be right?

Admittedly I am quite young - 22, but I earn a high wage. Can someone explain why the checker thinks I will be unsuccessful? Now I am not sure whether or not to apply.

Many thanks,

Danny

It might be. It might not be.,

Without seeing all the details you typed in, I wouldn't have a clue.

The 20% is only indicative. The worst that can happen is you get declined and have a search on your file for a few weeks.

No way of knowing one way or another, you can only apply and find out. So many variables at stake.

    Thanks,

The only other detail it asked for was my place of residence. I put down my parents address and said that I have lived at home with my parents (Wigan), for 9 years.

In reality, I have been a private tenant in London for less than one year. However, when I tried to use this address the system said... "Unfortunately, we have not been able to find your details at the Credit Bureau. Please check and try again."

If I was to apply, which address do you think I should go with? Do you think my age is the key negative factor?

    Age is negative.

    Income is low relevance.

Being on the voters roll is significant. Split addresses will confuse lenders and can lead to a play-safe decline.

Not a good idea to lie on credit applications.

I am on the electoral roll and registered to that address, will that not suffice?

Where do your bank think you live? Where does you mobile contract provider think you live? Where does any other credit facility, used or unused, think you live?

Where does a bank that (maybe) doesn't know you at all think you live from looking at a credit reference report on you?

If they're not sure, should they trust you with a line of credit?

Are you who you say you are?
Do you live where you say you live?
Do you work where you say you work?
Do you pay back the credit you take out?

If they can convincingly satisfy themselves on these points, there's a good chance of you getting credit.

(Personally, I'd decline you for coming from Wigan).

But you've stated above you don't live there.
