rtb or rta my house help!!!!!

Please help....
Ive been living in my house since 2002 this was my mums and I took the tenancy over in 2004. I filled in the rtb1 form in march as ive decided im sick of payin money in rent. A surveyor came last month to value the house. Ive just spoke to the housing association now an they are saying I don't qualify for rtb as I wasnt the tenant in 2002 when they switched from being the council. They said I can only by via rta which is £9000 off value of house regardless off how many years I've lived here. Is this right?

    Your mother had a preserved right to buy. How did you take over the tenancy?

    I would assume you simply became the tenant and you had no continuation of right to buy, so right to acquire would apply instead.

    I'm sure if you spend some time researching the legislation, Housing Act for example, you'll find what you're looking for...

  • My mum an her partner moved in together in another part of uk. I was here with my daughter who was only 1 so they handed the tenancy to me which I signed official in 2004.

    I believe, although I cannot link you to evidence of this, your mother's right to buy expired when her tenancy ceased and you became the tenant. In which case, right to acquire would appear correct.
