Best value for annual boiler service

I have a boiler that is under guarantee for all parts and labour. But I have to pay for an annual service.

Any recommendations for the most cost effective way of doing this?

So was this a one-off charge from a Gas Safe engineer?

It was £45 a couple of years ago. Try to use the installer, he can't very well say, "who fitted this, then"
  • Look for the list of Gas Safe engineers in your area - ask for their price per "service" . £66 if including VAT is probably fair - ish . The gas analyser costs £100`s and needs recalibrating anually - and belonging to Gas Safe isn`t cheap . Me , I never did gas after CORGI came in - I`m just a Muck and Bullets old plumber - WC`s and blocked drains etc. LOL. And Lead Work before the roofers pinched that too

Half an hour in your home plus travelling time etc makes £65 sounds reasonable to me.

It is only a racket if he/she didn't do a proper job or charged you more than quoted.

A trademan will make up a round of jobs the night before, if he charges for travelling for each job, he's onto a winner.
And lots of workers don;t get paid for travelling or a business tax deduction for the petrol and part capital cost of the vehicle. You want it all.

it is strange that people always assume that the time taken for the job and the cost are all that is taken in to consideration , they forget that you have overheads or do they think that the fairies pay for that ;)

A tradesman may decline to do a half hour job if it requires 30 minutes travel each way and the client will only pay for half an hour's time.

I think £65 for a boiler service is excellent value.

    This is a MONEYSAVING site.
I'm sure your advice is welcome , but what you should be doing, instead of exaggerating your price , is tipping other money savers off on ways to cut costs and tricks of the trade.
No doubt you gain from reading the other boards, like Savings and Groceries, so come on lads, play fair and square.
