well a clear case of not following their own remit

Yep, but according to them, their contract says they can do what they like once the label on the outside fails.

I'm not anti-postie, and I appreciate that things go wrong, it's just that in this case they could have easily reunited the package from the returns centre, but they just sold it on...

How predictable, I knew you'd turn up to disagree.

    Disagree?
I think you will find stating a fact isnt disagreeing
the post in question asked about RMS figures in relation to 1st class mail delivery success rate
packets are not included in this.
would you like me to pretend otherwise?

My main gripe with Royal Mail, although it's totally unrelated, is in certain parts of the country, where the machines that sort depending on size of package something gets stuck. Say a jiffy bag tried toi go through folded in half or a PIP box where the cellotape is caught in the machine so the lid pops up a few mm, then the item goes for surcharge OR sent to the Recovery team in the case of business mail. I would love to see a Watchdog programme on this.

But I just got in! I might have a heart attack. It's far safer indoors. Now... where's my slippers? :)

No, it's just the way you frame things - 'let's clarify..' or whatever it was you said - sounds surly. You seem to get a cob on with people slagging Royal Mail too (other threads and I'm not digging them up to show on this one), as some posties do, even when there's good reason to.

    packets arent 1st class mail

    Oh, really?

Small and Medium sized parcels/packets can both be sent by either first or second class, hence those sent by first class can presumably be classed as 'first class'.

Dictionary definition of mail: "Materials, such as letters and packages, handled in a postal system."

Wow - looks like I caused a mini riot ;)

Don't think my parcel has turned up yet although I have had confirmation of the 3rd one arriving... 3 out of 4 maybe?

you asked where RM got their figures for the success rate of 1st class delivery
this doesnt include packets since they dont fall under the USO
    semantics dont come into it
what happens when they drop 1st and 2nd and call them 24 & 48 as they do for business customers?
