Leaving Present for Teachers

:hello:

Now that it's half term, I realise that my two have only got 6 weeks left with their respective teachers, and want to start thinking about what to get them.

I was thinking about making them a foody-hampery-type thing and was wondering if anybody had any good ideas for nice cakes, savouries, that sort of thing.

thanks

i want to get something for my DD's wonderful nursery teacher and have no idea what to get, my DD is leaving the nursery having not got into the school so i want something really good as she is a really brilliant teacher.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

My daughter made her nursery teacher a pen holder out of an old loo roll tube as a leaving present. Teacher was delighted with it as dd had gone to the trouble of making it for her. dd is now 15 and the pen holder is still in use lol

    Hi daysieblue,

There are lots of hamper ideas on the Special Occasions & Celebrations board. It's especially worth a look at The Gift Basket and Hampers Index

For food ideas have a think of what you'd like to include and then have a search through the Old Style board for recipes.

For anyone else looking for ideas for teachers presents, have a look at this thread on the Families board: Gifts for Teachers

A hamper sounds like a lovely idea.
Me and my children have planted sunflowers to give to their teachers. They are now about 2 feet tall and we have re-potted them in individual pots that my children have hand painted.

I didn't buy a specific present for the small person's teacher last year...instead I made a large Victoria sandwich for everyone to share in the staff room. My son has Aspergers and so many people on the team contributed to the huge progress he made on all fronts that I wanted to acknowledge the effort that had been put in. One of my friends who's a TA there said it disappeared at the speed of light!

  • I asked our lovely nursery teachers what they'd like - it was some new books to read aloud (as they know the others by heart!) - so we are making lovely glittery sticky handmade cards and buying a bag of "new" to the nursery books. Plus I will make some star biscuits with him to decorate and take in on the last day.

Anything that your child has made (or if it's to be eaten, that YOU have madef080.gif) is an excellent present. Speaking as a teacher, a letter saying thank you and mentioning some of the reasons why you think the teacher has been helpful to your child is just as, if not more, valued as a gift.

Having said that, some of my younger colleagues say anything alcoholic!drunk.gif

I wholeheartedly endorse that. The 'presents' that I value the most are the letters/cards thanking me for the work I have done. There was one year when everything had gone wrong (bullying head teacher) and a little girl in my class wrote me the most amazing letter - now she didn't know it but it stopped me from leaving teaching altogether - If you think your teacher has done a good job then let them know. If you feel that you really have to give something then anything edible or drinkable is very acceptable - teachers have very little time to dust:o

I agree wholeheartedly - a card mentioning something that you specifically remember is always more appreciated than biscuits or bath salts.
Also, I received a really nice scented pillar candle at Christmas from a girl in my form, and it was much more long-lasting than a bottle of wine...

As a nursery teacher, anything that is a little lop sided, has too much glue on it or if it is a cake has just a little too much icing and sweets on to be decent - all perfect.

Please don't worry too much it really it the thought that counts - but remember 'your' teacher may receive presents from quite a few kids so really there are only so many mugs or ornaments you can use.

Cakes, bubble bath, wine, drawings, bulbs, hugs and thank you cards are some of my favourites.
