If that is what you want to do then get one of these :-

Shove a FAT32 hard disk in it loaded with DIVXs and XVIDS and it will play straight to your TV. I have one for when I stay away in hotels - just connect straight to a composite connection or via a scart adaptor and watch whatever you want. Smashing piece of kit!
Hows this work?
why is there not a simple 'lead' you can use to connect your computer/hard drive to your telly?
Technology does not seem quite there yet?0 -
I use a simply lead a vga cable to tv (LCD) via PC. I also use to use Svideo leads before LCD became properly on to a crt0
-
Can that type of lead be used for a non-LCD TV as well?
I have just realised that if my computer is slow at playing Divx then it won't matter if I use a monitor or TV - however the little box of tricks posted below might be more useful than I thought.
I think I need a DVD recorder (so I can record to disc and not limited by momeory) with a hard drive (so I can quickly record the 'throw away' stuff) and that plays Divx (to play from my computer) - Don't ask a lot do I !!!anyone seen any cheap ones with that spec?0 -
Yes my tv has a svideo lead I just use the vga port on my Samsung lcd to pc. You can on some lcd's use the dvi output to hdmi using a adaptor, but you need sound via sound card same as using svideo or vga ports. Some graphics cards now have hdmi port too.0

Now trying to look up svideo lead0

Is there a cheaper Divx and DVD player with Freeview built in available anywhere now or is this still the one to have?0
