When it was out of stock, I clicked on the "Notify Me" button and then received an email as soon as they were back on the site.

I see they are the main feature of their newsletter this week and theres a chance to win one.

AVI files can be divx but they can also be lots of other formats

There is a great little program called gspot, if you drag your avi file onto it it will tell you what type of file your avi is

My Pentium III computer struggles playing large Divx files and starts to slow down the video. Also bought a large monitor and it now flickers when play Divx fullscreen as the chip tries to show all the pixels!

I presume that a DVD player like this would be able to handle Divx no problem and play it as a normal film?

They should play the file with no problem but any picture will only be as good as the quality of your divx file

I've got about 60 discs with AVI's on them. I have no idea what formats they are, or even if they are the same format, but they all play on my Umax. The quality is variable but I think that's due to the various sources of the files, but the best of them really is excellent quality. 99% as good as a DVD!

The quality of video depends on the source, the bitrate (similar to say mp3's 128kbps, 160kbps) and the screen size. There are other factors for sound, like mp3, ac3, and dts. You can check the video if you use a program like gspot

Generally the higher the bitrate and screen size the better the picture, any bitrate greater that 1000 kbps is good but it depends on the person really.
