Internet access in France

Hi all,
I am going to France later this year and want a good (cheapish) way of getting internet access.
I have seen a mifi advertised which is sent to your hotel / accomodation, but this works out at around 100 euros for a fortnight.
I have thought of buying a mifi over here & getting it unlocked, but is it then as simple as putting in a local simcard, or is there more to it?
If this is an option, does anyone know the best deals on French Payg data plans?
Alternatively, does anyone have any different ideas.
Thanks for you help.

Have you checked if your hotel offers wifi ? and there are many cafes, coffee shops and fast food outlets that may offer free access.0

Internet on a Prepaid SIM is expensive over there. Figure on at least 9c per MB. Makes the 100€ seem like a good deal. :rotfl:
You can try an Orange France SIM
You can get a much better deal if you have a France registered Mastercard or Carte Bleu.0 -

Hi - thanks. I have relatives in France so possibly could pay by French card. What is the deal?
If I go for the Orange sim is it just a case of picking it up in a supermarket and popping it in the mifi? How do you add credit to it from a mifi?0 -

In that case get your relatives to get the card for you. Either from an Orange shop or online(if online, they will have to provide identification within 15 days or you won't be able to topup the SIM).

Thanks again.

You'll need to enter the Profile(APN etc) within the MiFi software and set it to Default.Lets Go is the Sim for laptops and usb dongles. There is now an email service to register ID details with Orange France. This is faster and more reliable than the postal system. Usually takes two days to complete. Registration must be completed before the top up can be added to the Sim. Lets Go APN : orange.fr User : orange Password : orange
Dial number, if needed, will be either *99# or *99***1#0 -
I'm on holiday, in the South of France (Sainte Maxine) using mifi to post this.!! I have a Huawei 5332 (from eBay) walked into the local SFR shop, showed them my unlocked mifi unit and askedenough for my familyr the 30 day pre-pay data SIM, they gave me Carte SIM prête à surfer (tablette & Cl!) I said I wanted the 30euro recharge (2GB bundle) there is an offer on until 26th August on double recharge on SFR. Also I asked them to put the recharge on as you have to ring and put a code in. You need a passport to obtain a SIM in France. Also I only speak a little holiday French and it is all conducted in French.!!
I now have the above SIM with the recharge SFR connects partout 30 euro = 4Go (2Go+2Go offerts) with the cost of sim €9.90 + €30 recharge= €39.90 I have 30days to use 4GB of Data. more than enough for my family.!!!0
