I would be so very grateful of any help.....
My daughter turns 8 in just under 5 weeks. She would love to have a party but we have NO money:(
I'd really like to do something for her ... she has a close circle of friends who I know she would love to see on her birthday (a Saturday). I'm thinking that there would be a maximum of 6 children (my daughter inlcuded).
My husband and I aren't great at entertaining children (we've always paid people to provide 'ready made' parties in the past).
I'm COMPLETELY STUCK .. I have no idea what to do.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks so much, xxpp05

Just have a good old fashioned kids party. Make some sausages/cheese and pineapple on sticks and some sandwiches. Big bowl of cheesy poofs.
Play pass the parcel, musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey etc. Give each kid a party bag with a couple of 20p toys in...
Your little girl's bound to enjoy it.
Otherwise, rent a movie for them, stick it on the tv, close the curtains, get them a couple of bags of microwave popcorn and give them the full "cinema experience" for under a fiver.0 -
Thanks Idiophreak
I'm nervous about it ... but quite excited at the same time. I just don't want to let my daughter down.
...but then - at 8 yrs old I think they'd have a great time just being together:)
Like the ideas - and the movie one sounds great!
Thanks for your suggestions ... I'll get planning!0 -
This is where it pays to have daughters!
I know they're a bit too young for this but you could clear out your make-up bag and leave them to go wild with it! Just give them all a good scrape down before they go home!
I think the film suggestion is a great idea. Also if you can buy individual-sized kid's cheese and tomato pizzas and then a tin of pinaeapple chunks, a Peperami, some ham etc you can send dad in before the film to take 'orders'- just like being at Pizza Hut and each girl gets to choose her own topping. A big tub of vanilla ice-cream is always a good idea too especially if you can stretch to some bags of sweets/Maltesers for toppings.
Combined with some sparkling grape juice (or economy lemonade!) they'll feel very grown up!Aiming to pay off mortgage by my 30th birthday... £39438 to go!

Great idea with the pizzas and pud!
Can anyone recommend a good film for 8yr old girls? We've not been to the cinema in years ... haven't got a clue what films are 'out there' (I'll try looking on Amazon)0 -
Hmmm ... was looking at 'Charlottes Web' DVD (released yesterday I think)
Not sure though ... isn't it a bit of a deep and meaningful/sad film?
Don't want the girls leaving my house in tears !!!!
Has anyone seen it?0 -
Mydaughter is 8 in 38 days time (she's counting the seconds too!), we've decided to have a sleepover for her close friends which is free! We're renting movies from blockbusters via tesco clubcard, making pizza with my yummy bread maker and buying some popcorn for the movie. A couple of relatives will be popping in and I think they'll be contributing with a few bags of sweeties etc.
High School Musical is a HUGE hit with the girls at the moment!
Hope you're daughter will have much fun!DS 17 yearsDD 16 years DS 5 years
Busy working mum spinning plates!

For my daughter's 7th birthday we had a sleepover for 4 of her friends, couldn't fit more in her room. As her birthday is a week before Halloween it was a Halloween theme and they all dressed up. Then they just watched DVD's and had Pizza to eat. We did order the Pizza in but homemade would be good, you could even get them to make their own.
As for films, my daughter loves Tracy Beaker and Hannah Montanna so dvds of those might be popular. Apparently High School musical is also popular. If you rented something like the Narnia film that may go down well. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Last summer when my daughter turned 8 (in July) we had a Luauh Party (not sure if that's how you spell it - pronounced Loo ow!) which in ordinary terms is just a Hawiian party. We put a gazebo up outside, decorated with cheap flower garlands, inflatable palm trees etc (which could be made out of cardboard tubes and green paper). We also had the swimming pool up. All the girls came dressed up in their hawiian outfits, which looked great. They played limbo etc, had a swim/splash in the pool. For food we had a bbq going to cook hot dogs etc with the usual nibbles crisps etc then for pudding, they constructed their own knickerbocker glories. We had a long table with different coloured jellies, various fruits, cheap ice cream, chocolate drops, sprinkles, spray cream etc and they absolutely loved it and came back for more and more until it was all gone. For drinks we made up Hawiian punch using lemonade mixed with carton fruit juice - pineapple and coconut - decorated with cocktail umbrellas from a pound shop. All in all a fantastic party which she wants again this year, although numbers will be reduced fromt the fifteen last year as it was a squeeze in the pool.......0

Most of the parties mine have been invited to in the past have been at "wacky warehouse" type places, but my budget would never stretch to that at the moment.
I was very nervous regarding cost but it doesn't have to be expensive.
My daughter (9) invited 6 friends, they had pizza, (3 for £3 from Asda), crisps, sweets, juice - plain old diluting stuff that we normally buy.
They played Singstar & Dance mat games on the playstation & all had an absolute ball !!
Cost = probably about £10
Mess = very little.
Fun & memories = priceless !
She & her sister have already requested the same for next year.0 -
Fantastic ... thanks for all the suggestions :j
I've looked up High School Musical on Amazon and it looks great .. my daughter says she'd like to watch that one.
Guess I'll just need to sit down and figure out some of the finer details.
Anyone who has done a film party ... have you/would you do party games ASWELL or just the DVD?
I'll also need to look out for some goodies for the party bags too...0
