As your husband is unable to drive he is not able to supervise a learner driver, therefore you are unable to drive unless someone else with a full license who is also insured on your car/has insurance that allows him/her to drive other cars to supervise you throughout the journey.

Using other forms of transport may be inconvenient, but its better than driving illegally and taking on such a large journey as a learner while you have children in the vehicle.

  • Major road works on A11 between Mildenhall and Thetford. Do not expect to do that 15 mile stretch in less than 30 mins unless you go along there before 10 in the morning at weekends or after about 4 in the afternoon.

If you do choose to drive I wouldn't go on the A11. I would go A421, A14 then A143 to Great Yarmouth much quieter roads.

You need to check out the legal position with husband supervising a learner driver....

I was in a similar position a few years ago - DH got a ban for 6 months as clocked up points... the judge told me to put on L plates and learn to drive :o

it was legal for a banned driver to sit next to me

so i had to drive - i did many very long trips with DH next to me...

I had to do it and knowing he could not take over if i got stressed meant i had to just do it...

in the past i had got a bit stressed and then pulled over and got out saying i did not want to drive...

So if it is legal for your husband to sit next to you if you have L plates i would have a few test drives this week and see how you feel.... and if you feel ok then plan a route ... we used to plan out travelling so that we set off very early in the morning - it gets light at 4am at the moment - so that by the time the roads get busy i had increased my confidence ....

I have just looked on google maps and it seems you have a few choices of routes as its not really a motorway journey anyway..

Another option - can you take a friend/relative with you who can drive?
