Upgrading PC as a novice

If you've connected them up then try this
Turn off the PC, wait 30 seconds, or until any lights on the motherboard go out
Remove graphics card
Re-insert graphics card
Turn PC back on.
Sounds stupid but often works. They tend to not sit right first time.
Also make sure it's pushed all the way in. Some motherboards have an LED by the graphics card slot that lights up red if it isn't in properly.0 -
Just a holding post with images

Checked, and everything seems pushed in as it should. Just turned it on, but 5 beeps on startup again.
Starting to wonder if it's just not compatible with the motherboard, which is a Fujitsu D2990-a10 -
Just a beep - beep - beep - beep - beep
Short bursts, 5 times. Will try and upload a sound file to clarify.0 -
And yes, it does the POST check fine with it out, just doesn't get past it with it in. No other connections or wiring changes.

Sounds upload for the beeps, just to clarify the 5 qucik beeps in succesion.0 -
I assume your not getting any post on screen.
Make sure the card is fully inserted into the PCI Express slot, as the slot hasn't been used before the card might not be correctly seated. Sometimes they require a reasonable amount of force to get them correctly seated.
And make sure there isn't any dust in the slot.0 -
Nothing at all, as the screen is totally blank.
Shall give that a shot tomorrow morning now I think. Certainly felt like it was completely in, but could be something as daft as that.
Thanks everyone for the help so far.0 -
Checked everything was completely secure in there, fully pushed in, and nothing.
As I was in town today, I popped into the shop I brought it from and they're going to do a check on the card itself. Should hopefully hear back later on today, and pop up the outcome.0 -
Ok, had the call today and (surprise) the card worked for them during testing, but they didn't release details of what they tested it with.
Took my desktop down to the store with me to collect the part, but they refused to actually have a look into things.
Further things I've done have been to change the BIOS settings. These are now set to PEG/PCI, but still had the same issue on bootup. The fans on the GPU were coming on though, so I'm led to believe all is connected as it should be. Still having the same issue.
A friend has lent me an old graphics card, and I've popped this into the slot where the GTX 660 TI was going, used those settings, and everything has powered up and booted fine, so it doesn't appear to be the slot itself.
Can't think of anything else myself now, and Novatech are being rather obstructive!0 -
The 660ti is a reasonably powerful card
Some lower quality power supplies can't deliver enough amps on the connection that goes into the card.
As it's working with an older card and the other card has been tested and working fine, i'd wager it's the PSU.All your base are belong to us.0
