When Rusty died, we had him cremated and his ashes are in a casket which enables you to also put a photo on it's top, so it looks like a photo frame.

He is on a wooden travel crate, in the alcove of the lounge, with a canvas print of him, playing in the park when he was younger, dragging half a tree trunk and his collar laying in front of his ashes.

When I go, I am to be cremated and his ashes will go in with mine into a plot, where my other half will also be.

If Tibsey the new family cat passes away before me too, she will be with me too.

    Soft , I know, but that's me ! lol

Agree with another poster, I would donate to a local rehoming charity, I got my cat from Freshfield animal centre in Formby, Rusty was from the RSPCA, but the place was very upsetting. Freshfield has large pens with sofas and cahir for the cats to lie on, rugs on the pen floor, look like a real home.

You could buy, say 2 months supply of cat food for the centre, they need all the food they can get, instead of money. At least you know it will use the food and not be used for something not connected with the welfare of animals.

She's gorgeous! Looks like a real cutie :) So sad to think of the abuse she went through before you gave her a lovely home where she could relax and be loved.

Thank you. It's awful thinking of what she went through. That picture is about 6 months after I got her and barely resembles how she looked at first.

Opened the cupboard earlier and a tub of Pringles that I'm sure had been at the back fell out and landed upright on the worktop. They were her favourite "steal" treat!! She used to wait until I wasn't looking and take the lid off then somehow empty the tub out. Cheeky madam!

I really appreciate everyone's suggestions. I dropped some food off today and some bedding, blankets etc and sample toys at the rehoming centre. Sammie's picture and story is now on their remembrance wall

Have arranged to go look at cats ready for rehoming after my holiday in two weeks. My mum is also going so that's at least two cats that will get new starts, possibly three as my mum has seen a female cat who has "adopted" an abandoned kitten and is really keen on the pair of them.

Realised today that out of all the cats I've had since being little, only two were not rescues. Well, one was a sort-of rescue - she was weakest of the litter of my school friends cat and was being rejected by the mother so I took her!

Keep feeling choked up as the sight of her struggling for breath keeps popping to mind but I'm glad for her that it happened so quick. :A

I don't have any helpful suggestions, I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. It bluddy hurts doesn't it?

When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.

To some poor wistful, lonely stray
    I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cozy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
    The loving voice,
The place I made in someone’s heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
    A peaceful painless end
    Held in loving arms.

If I should die, Oh do not say,
“No more a pet I’ll have, to grieve me by it’s loss”
Seek out some lonely, unloved cat
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
’til all I have to give.

For ages after (and even now sometimes), it still upset me to think of Charlie lying in his cage at the Vets struggling to breathe and in pain :(

That's lovely that you and your Mum are going to adopt new cats :)

She's gorgeous, and a ginger female too, quite uncommon over here they are. The good memories you have of her will stay with her too, sounds like you had a lovely time together :)

    Author Unknown,

I love that poem! :) I remember seeing it somewhere after we lost Charlie, and I had tears running down my face, but it helped me feel better about getting another cat, and just reinforced that we were doing the right thing.

Aw,I know,it just makes me cry whenever I read it,
I have a Charlie too, hes 11 years old and just huge and as mad as it sounds he is such a kind cat,
he lets the strays outside have his food and then he waits patiently and eats what is left lol and thanks to him I now have 4 cats instead of 2 as he kindly bought these 2 in a year apart to feed in my house, couldnt trace the owners so kept them both.
Hes so docile even birds land close by him and he just ignores them, its not his age,hes always been like it.
