I never give my phone number to charities. But since I'm not ex-directory, there's nothing to stop them looking me up in the phone book.
That said, they never get any money out of me, so they are just wasting their time.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I tell charities to stop once. If they attempt again, I stop all donations to them.0

I have stopped regular payments to charities years ago for this reason.
When you first set it up you get that little feeling of pride, as if you are really helping make a difference.
Fast forward a year and you realise a great portion of that money is helping to send the very letters you are getting annoyed about, not to mention six figure salaries for those at the helm.
They make you feel genuinely guilty for being such a tightwad
I only ever sponsor people now.0 -
The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children said services for children accounted for £32m of its total outgoings of £75m last year. But it issued a robust defence of other items of expenditure including £11.4m for campaigning, £9.2m for public education and £14m for fundraising and publicity.

Every time the NSPCC call you, you should call Paul! Simple! I bet when he gets 10 calls from you expressing your displeasure he'll put a stop to them calling you.
I now call back companies 10 times for every time they call me.The man without a signature.0 -
Don't remember but they probably asked for them when I set up the DD. This was at least a couple of years ago. Another time I won't (leave it blank or add a fictional one).
I'm certainly getting more careful with my phone numbers. There are some people/organisations that legitimately need it - your doctor, perhaps your bank. But in the main, people can contact me by email. There's absolutely no need for a charity to have my phone number - what could they possibly need to phone me about unless, quel surprise, they want more money?

I'm not suggesting they don't deserve a good Salary but perhaps not from my pocket.

EDIT : She left post in 20080 -
Ask them to write to you with a figure of what amount of your contribution goes to the people to whom you intend it. And what goes to administration.
You'll never hear from them again0 -
On returning home yesterday, my lodger told me that my landline had been ringing repeatedly while I was out. I strongly suspect that this was the charity concerned in my original vent as they have been ringing my mobile too. I cancelled my direct debit to them this morning. If they complain, I will tell them that I don't want my money wasted on nuisance/persistent phone calls. I want it to go to the kids who need it.
With the next charity, I will put a fictional number or none at all.0
