Want refund on diamond ring

Options
I got my girlfriend a diamond ring 9 months ago but the setting was damaged.

The jeweller we bought it from repaired the ring but now she has it back she doesn’t like it anymore and is worried it may damage again. The trouble is they are at the other end of the country.

I have asked for a refund but the jeweller is saying no as they say we did the original damage and they have repaired it for free and covered our postage costs.

Can we get our money back. Should we go to trading standards.

    What would you tell them?

"We've changed our mind after 9 months and now the mean man won't give us our money back."

    Good luck with that.

The jeweller has met their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act by repairing the ring. Just because your girlfriend no longer likes the ring isn't justification for rejecting it.

You could try but not sure what you would say to TS.

If you do a search for 'jeweller damage' on MSE you will find lots of threads from people who have damaged a ring and want to claim a refund / sue the jeweller. People's responses are pretty much unanimous, which is that the jeweller is not at fault. I tend to agree with them.

No, sorry, your only option is to sell the ring and get another one (this time making sure she isn't going to go off it again in another 9 months, or it could get to be an expensive habit...)

Is it the ring she doesn't like or the fact that she is wearing it?

Changing one's mind/losing faith in an item is not really a valid reason to want a refund.

The jeweller made a ring, it got damaged, they repaired it. If your girlfriend doesn't like it now because she's afraid it might get damaged again, I'm afraid that's hard cheese.
