Help Reduce My Monthly Broadband, SKY TV & Line Rental.

Options
Hi all,

I've had Sky broadband, line rental and tv for several years and last year in my attempt to reduce my outgoings and cancel sky tv they reduced my bill by £14 for a few months. The deal ended last month so going forward it will now be £36. In my opinion this is too much considering I don't watch tv much and can do without my landline as I hardly use that too.

I see there's a Talktalk offer expiring tomorrow and I wanted suggestions on whether there're cheaper deal and also advice on what to do.

Until last month I paid £21.50 for Sky TV, £1 Sky Talk and £0 for BB= £22.50 per month. This has now increased to £21.50 Sky TV £14.50 sky talk and £0 BB = £36

If I remember clearly, Sky did something to the lines that (in their opinion) makes it impossible to transfer it to another provider. I believe I've read somewhere that it's possible to write them and ask it be reverted back??

So my questions are manly around which deal is the best for Broadband? Is it possible to get stand alone BB? If it's cheaper to bundle it with a landline which is offer is cheapest? I can live with sky freeview or freesat so tv is not up on my list but I need over 10gb so I’ll like an unlimited package.

I'll also appreciate any advice re how to get the sky line transferred back.
PS: I’ve listed those available at Lea Valley exchange which is my exchange.

Thank you so much already!

Pay your line rental 12 months in advance, works out at £9.95 / month.
How come your BB is £0, are you on the 2Gb capped package, cos unlimited is £7.50.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I, among many others, was in exactly the same situation as you - paying through the nose for Sky TV. I then found out about TalkTalk's TV offering. Even compared with Sky, it's still great, although the box can be a bit slow compared the Sky one, it's fine.

I was paying circa £70 a month to Sky (TV, broadband, phone, line rental) but now I pay £15.50 a month (excl. line rental which I pay annually, equivalent to £9.50 a month) to TalkTalk and get the same services. Also, with TV Boosts, you can get all the premium Sky channels anyway and it's still cheaper. You get free box sets too, the on demand content available on TalkTalk TV is much richer than Sky's - you get so many freebies and extras.

I'd make the move like I did. One word of warning, if you switch from a Sky telephone line, you won't be able to keep your number.
