What is matched betting? Am I being thick


The best thing to do is have a look on the "introductory gambling loopholes" board for a better explanation, but here's my best shot.

When you sign up with a bookmakers, they will sometimes offer you a free bet once you have done a qualifying bet of your own money. Matched betting is a system which (if you do it right) means that you can "safely" bet your own money, and then extract the value of the free bet. Combined with the Quidco cashback from signing up, people on the MB have made quite a lot of money.

HOWEVER - it's not entirely risk free; if you make a mistake, you can still lose money, so you have to be sure of what you are doing before you start. I'm planning on trying to get my head around it and starting with very small stakes to minimise the risk.

Yeah, I've written 7 of the 12 steps now, when I have finished them, I will ask the board guides to check my info is right and post it here.

There's a fair amount of info for the newbie on the board already so I want the guide I write to be complementary, not duplicative, and to explain more of the "why" things are done that way, not just "this is what you do, bish bosh."

Hi everyone

Will probably get bashed over the head...but I think it could be very dangerous/dodgy or whatever to post a matched betting guide on this section of the forum. I also think it will cause this section of the forum to stray from it's (very good) intended purpose. Sorry!

I think that for excellent reasons the gambling loopholes section of the forum has excellent warnings and advice, newbie introductory threads and loads of people who have been doing matched betting for yonks to give advice...and that's where it should stay...on the gambling loopholes forum. I understand from a friend who does matched betting and helps me out that there are very strict controls over there and they monitor and close inappropriate threads very quickly.

I am concerned that if a thread was put on this section it might encourage people to risk money they cannot afford. Matched betting is risk free...but guidelines and help are on the gambling loopholes forum and not here. If you follow a guide written by someone who has only been following it for 7 weeks I would have concerns. (no offence meant but I started early April as well and now have over £1k in profits and I would not dream I knew enough to write a guide and I admit to still seeking support)

I really do think that DFW section of the forums should stay DFW and if anyone wants to try matched betting....by all means ask and you can be directed to the correct section of the MSE forum.

Matched betting is not for everyone....definitely not for those who don't understand it........definitely not for those who can't afford to tie up a few hundred quid for a while. I think you need about £200 to make a comfortable start. Yes it does quickly come back....but to continue you need to leave profits in the system to build up balances at the betting exchange.

Please think carefully about whether this is for you, and if it is then head on over to the experts at the gambling loopholes forum.

What i propose is that we use a thread, whether here or another board, as a collective pool, bit like a study group as it were to help us all get our heads round the matched betting thing and try a few small test runs so we're ready for when the good bets come round again. Then perhaps once we have it to a tee we can start a challenge, But please please don't risk money you can't afford to loose!!!!

Think we need a tutor though, any volunteers to help steer us through the initial maze? Thanks to warburtonrichard for your posts so far. If we can find a nice cosy comfortable home of our own on a board that we all like the look of then lets go for it!!

I'd be happy with that....talk to the mods on the gambling loopholes forum and start a thread there......DFWs MBing Study Gorup:T

I can't stress enough...the expertise is on the gambling loopholes thread and they are more than willing to support and guide newbies through the maze.

I'm all in support of DFWs generating additional income to reduce the debts via MBing....I just want to make sure they are in the right place to get the right support and I just don't think that this section of the forum is it.

thats cool brainfreeze, completely understand your point of view, right all, off for my tea then a lonely night in a hotel at my disposal to create a nice DFW matched betting support group on the gambling board. are all ok with that?
