Double glazing quote from safestyle (North East)

Decided on safestyle pretty much as the bloke seemed pretty decent.
Advised of slightly lower quotes, said he could only goto 2.8.
Suprisingly I've not been bombarded by calls from them or brow beaten with sales info!0 -
Be very careful with Safestyle. Their salesman have just breached the Doorstep Regulations Act with two very vulnerable neighbours. Their 'seven day' cooling off period is in effect only six as they count the day you signed, regardless of the hour as day one. In this instance 11pm at night - which was the only way to get shut of the salesman. Their customer service is non existent and they are heinous to deal with. We have reported them to the police for harrassment.0

I would be wary of Safestyle, I have a front and back door that were fitted about 6 years ago. My previous main door was totally broken and I live in the middle of a colliery terrace which meant I had to walk all the way around 30 houses to get into my house. I used SS because they could have the new doors fitted within 2 weeks and any local (cheaper but just as good) would take 6 weeks.
Any time we get a vague bit of sun something in the front door swells and it won't shut once open. I have had repair people out every year to one or other of the doors, all have been pretty scathing about the original fit. SS won't accept that the doors must be faulty, lets face it I live in Gateshead its not that warm! Last time I called I was asked if there was any way I could fix it myself as it was a Friday night and they didn't think they could get anyone to come out. After the 10 year guarantee is up I may as well get new doors again as these are not good!
Once when I called customer service I was able to listen to a lengthy conversation about the partying and drug taking that teh phone operatives had been up to the night before. They hadn't pressed the block button when I was on hold so I heard the whole thing. A very unprofessional company.0 -
Long needed update on this lol.
Had quotes from a few local indies, they all seemed a little haphazard and wouldn't do all of the work themselves, most were getting another company in to do the lintels.
spoke to Warmseal after them being recommended their initial quote was considerably higher than everyone else, however after chatting to them theyve gone to £3.2 thats for everything including the building work and lintels, far prefer the onus on the work to be with 1 company they cant ping pong me if anythign goes wrong that way.0 -
I wouldn't touch Safestyle.0

When we signed up to a large contract to fit all our windows and doors, we thought from past reviews that the customer service was not the best, but that the product was good. Unfortunately for us we are living a nightmare that started in February and is still ongoing today, 8 months later. I will not hesitate to say that EVERYTHING about this company is appalling - but above all the way the company is being managed. Trying to talk through issues with managers has been traumatic- they argue with you on the phone (that is when they bother to phone you back), try and make every excuse under the sun (including blaming us?!), swear at you and in the end make it quite clear that they are only interested in getting hold of the final deposit. We eventually contacted the managing director out of desperation, who responded with a standard letter offering us 200pounds compensation. We have not heard from him since and as ever in trying to fix some of the issues, new ones appear. Details of issues below!
In February when we had bi-fold and double doors fitted. These all "dropped" straight away so that the doors could not be opened or closed properly. 3 different fitters came to try and fix them over the ensuing months, and they all had a different excuse as to why is happened "the hot weather", "bolts used in transportation", "stones" in the runways...they would then defer to a different department (the surveyors) who argued that the measurements were correct and tried to blame the original structure of our building. In the interim all the windows and the front doors were fitted. The front door did not fit the frame - after arguing with the depot manager to send someone to take a look, one of the fitters told us that all the doors are bowed and therefore do not fit the frame properly. Obviously this was a surprise...we bought a door expecting it to fit a door-frame both of which were fitted by them...?
Every window had something wrong with them (one even had a pane missing!). Mainly the window frames did not line up with the structure of the bay windows- again the fitters tried to refit to no avail, and the surveyors denied everything. Eventually all of them (including doors) were removed and refitted completely (after the head Director of installation got involved, and maybe by coincidence or not after we contacted the managing director)...unfortunately they did not design a feature we had asked for correctly so again we are having to phone the call centre and chase down someone that can arrange for a visit to review, then arrange for fitters to come etc. etc.
The time we have spent on this has been phenomenal, to the point that the family has to take it in turns to deal with them to share not only the amount of time taken, but also to spread the stress it is causing having to deal with people that are not interested in providing a good service, and only want their money quickly by doing a sub-standard job...please please avoid!!!0 -
Just read a thread on mse forum regarding safe style, I swear there is a parallel universe, reading navrams thread is exactly what we have just been quoted for, after extensive badgering and numerous visits from sales reps , then supposedly an area manager from my area ( im in Liverpool, he was from Bradford, oh yes very local) the quotes where getting cheaper, we did in the end succumb to the pressure and pay the 60 quid deposit which pays for a surveyor and gets knocked off your quote, we were told by the rep any doughts just phone and cancel, you get 14 days cooling off period, we cancelled 3 days later only to be pressured over the phone, what if we get the price down, no just cancel we said, they said just let the surveyor turn up and if we cant beat your previous quotes then we'll part ways and we'll refund your money, watch this space.0

safe style reps (and other big companys) in all trades will never learn that a little more knowledge and alot less pressure will win everytime. 9/10 i can quote a firm price within 15 minutes and leave it with them or they can yay or nay me . I went to quote a large french door combi local to me on friday and my first thought was how do we get it around the back to begin with (locked in terrace)Customer had two other "reps" earlier and never said or noticed this problem. Got job decent price. In and out 30 minutes inc full measure and order form with full explaination about whats going to happen and what they are getting . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

had a visit from door to door rep for Safestyle.
Booked appointment for sales rep to call. They cancelled but came next day. Salesman seemed OK. Talked through all the usual stuff. Gave me options on two types. Took about an hour. Just put tape measure to windows. Then said the fitter surveyor would come to get actual sizes. First quote for "cheaper units" was £7,500 and second for the better units with "higher specification" was £11,500. After a bit of reluctance shown he said he was willing to give me the better units at the lower price if we let them put a sign outside our house whilst doing the job.
I stated that due to our financial position I could not accept the quote and also said that the price was offered as a fixed price for twelve months. This giving me time to get the required sum should I decide to go ahead.
My wife receives pension credit and when I told him this he said "because of your circumstances" we could be part of the Gov scheme for warmer homes grant and the price would be £4,700 fully fitted with the best units. I held out and he went saying that the quote would still be available. I asked him to send the quote in writing and he said he would.
I had a follow up call on the Monday asking if all went well? I said it had and I was waiting for the written quote............ Three days later had another call asking same. Two days after had another call. I told them that I was waiting for the letter.............
After seeing the horrible advertisement for them on Friday night I gave them a call (free phone number). I was told that they do NOT do written quotes, that they do not offer assistance with the grants, that the low price was subject to amendment by the fitting surveyor and it could not be guaranteed. He finished off by saying, "roughly", If I did not like it "so what ?"0
