100 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
Since the rules changed I did manage to open a second account in my name online. I think it may have been a glitch but I still have 2!

my 2nd a/c seems to have gone through OK. (online) Declared the existinf 123 a/c (TCB at £34)
Strangely, it would not accept any of my spare clydesdale a/cs. (Didnt try the Yorkshire ones). Used a Nationwide instead.

Assuming all goes well, will do a 3rd soon

Further investigation indicates that the only way you have two 123 accounts is if one is in your sole name and the other is joint - see bold type about half way down the grey box on this page (same link as in previous post).

    Seems not - 2nd 123 a/c in sole name - a glitch ? don't know, but is a good home for some 3%

"Thank you for your application for a 123 Current Account.

We're pleased to tell you that your application was successful and that we've opened your account for you.

To reassure you that this email is from Santander, we've included your online application reference number in the title of this email. This is the number that we asked you to note down at the end of your online application.

    So, what happens next?
Within the next 5-7 days we'll send you your account details, bank card and PIN."

Did you do the second application via TCB and did you log in to your existing 123 online to make the second application or do it as a 'new customer'?;)

went via TCB. declared that I had an 'existing Santander a/c' (it didnt ask me to state whether 123 or not.). So I was a 'new customer'
Logged on to Santander just and the new 123 a/c details are showing.
There is also a dormant "everyday current a/c" sitting there.
Will see if I can upgrade this online to 123

Strange that the T&Cs say 1 sole and you can still do this... (but YP we, or was it Yorkshireboy ?), had PMs about another Bank where multiple a/cs have been allowed despite the T&Cs !)

    1. Eligibility

To be eligible to open this account you must be 18 years old or over and live in the UK for tax purposes. The maximum number of 1I2I3

Current Accounts is two; you may only hold one single and one joint 1I2I3 Current Account (or one of each). Any additional requests for a

1I2I3 Current Account may result in a joint account holder becoming aware of your existing 1I2I3 Current Account(s). If you open or hold any

additional 1I2I3 Current Account(s), we may change them to another current account. We will give you at least two months’ personal notice

if we decide to change the account. If you are not happy with the change, you are free to close the account or there may be other current

    accounts available to you.

I now have 4 x everyday savers (forgotten the reason for these/nothing in them), 1 x Everday current a/c (reason - future donor) and 2 x 123s. Seems they are not adverse to multiple a/cs

Switch paperwork, card and pin No, all received today. 2nd SOLE 123 a/c is showing on Santander Internet banking.

'Looks' as though it will be OK.

Switch was from a spare Nationwide a/c. No DDs and a nil balance.

Nice that this has been approved, though still strange if the T&Cs say you can only have one sole a/c
  • I had two 123 accounts showing for a few days.

There I was, happily patting myself on the back, but it didn't take them long to correct my mistake.
  • We have a joint account, where I pay tax at 40% on savings interest, whilst my wife pays 0. She also has a single account. The overall interest rate, after my tax and our monthly fees is 2.58%. Still worth it.
