Motorola V620 call failed message

My son gave hubby his old v620 which was O2 PAYG. Hubbys sim is O2 PAYG. He put his chip in the phone and put in his pin and it all worked OK.problem is he can't mak or receive calls.
If you try to make a call you get 'call failed' message. When you try to call i you get a 'caller cannot take your call the the moment'.
Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem -tried looking at the user gude and can't find any trouble shooting suggestions. Took simout and put it back -still the same

Sounds like the signal strength is weak. How many bars are showing on the aerial ?You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0

you may need to update your operator settings.. go HERE and get the settings sent to your phone..
on that site if you have a cable, it will also give your phone the latest firmware.. but remember to back everything up if you do decide to reflash it.0
