In Asda on Sunday getting a few bits and as we were walking away from the checkout my wife thought there was something wrong with the amount we were charged, checked the receipt and we had been charged for 3 packs of ribs instead of 2 so an extra £3.60 and also 2 vests instead of 1 so another £6, a total overcharge of £9.60. Went to customer services and without batting an eyelid the lady looked at the receipt and handed over the cash saying 'it happens all the time in here'

All the major supermarkets are the same.0

Did you also get a card with £2 on it?
You should have.
I always check my reciept and get an extra couple of quid for being overcharged.0 -
Always check my reciept, Asda are terrible. Also have to ask for the £2 gift card, the staff always pretend not to know anything about thier policy or fob me off with a lame excuse. They soon change when I ask for the manager.I hate migraines.0

Have been overcharged by most supermarkets and even corner shops in the past, it happens, you should always check your shopping, surprised to hear about no mention by staff of the £2 card from Asda if a error is made, staff have always mentioned it to me, it used to be their saving stamps you got, don't think I ever used the stamps.
On the £2 card apology for overcharge, some people take it to another level, have seen several times while waiting at the checkouts, staff putting goods through and noticing customer had been overcharged and correcting it to correct price, customers then arguing quite forcibly and in at least one case aggressively for the checkout operator to leave at the overcharge price/put back to the overcharge price so they can claim the £2 card, asked checkout operators if it happens a lot, seemingly it's a regular occurrence.0 -
Its happened to me a couple of times in Morrisons. Its as though the checkout assistants scan your items more than once for some reason. Its like they are slyly trying to get extra out of you without you realising.
Very crafty if your not a person who doesn't check your receipts. I check mine religiously every time i shop & before i leave the store.0 -
With the modern multi-angle laser matrix barcode readers, it is very easy to scan an item twice. Try yourself when using the self-pay checkouts at supermarkets.
Most checkout operators should be able to tell by the number of beeps however, if they are scanning fast and their mind is elsewhere, they may ignore the number of beeps! If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
We have a system in our house that we tot up all our reciepts for the week and split the cost.
I realised after a while that I should definately have been more observant with reciepts especially Asda, many time items were just marked down on the reciept as 'goods' therefore me not knowing what the item was.
I no longer use Asda ( for other reasons) and check all reciepts each time I buy anything now.0 -

The system in our Asda is always getting the prices of things wrong - charging full price when there's offers on etc.
The Customer Service is 90% a joke and the last time Asda majorly boobed - leaving my card charged twice and me in danger of missing direct debits because of it, my name and address was taken to send me a compensatory pre-loaded card. Never did get it. ***kers.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
*Could/should/would HAVE please!*
