Faulty Blackberry Torch 9800

Options
Bought above phone from an Amazon seller last October (bought early due to good offer) as a Christmas present for my daughter.

Today the phone developed a fault. It is flashing to say she has a message but the screen is black.

Anybody any idea what is wrong with it?

Also do you know if I should contact the seller re warranty or do I contact Blackberry?

thanks

Have you tried rebooting? Factory reset?

Difficult to say in your case. Normally the retailer goes first.

  • Thanks grumbler.

I know nothing about phones so taking it back to factory setting didn't occur to me.

I assume if she does this she will lose all her music, photos etc but we will have to give it a try. Time to dig out the instructions to find out how to do it.

    Thanks again.

a simple battery pull would be the first thing to try.

otherwise it might have to be a factory reset to fix it.

Have you tried backing it up via the Desktop Manager?
  • Cycrow - we tried the battery pull, didn't work but thanks for the suggestion.

NiftyDigits - thanks for thatbut you totally lost me. I will have to ask hubby if he knows how to do that or has a friend who can.

Desktop Manager is software you run on your pc.

it allows you to sync data between your phone and pc and allows you to backup data from the phone to be restored later.

just download it from the blackberry site, or search for Blackberry Desktop Manager.

wether or not this will work will depend on the problem with the phone

BlackBerry® Desktop Install it to the computer and then connect the Torch 9800 via USB. Hopefully it will recognise the phone. Do a Backup as requested. Then we can consider what to do next.
  • Cycrow and NiftyDigits.

Thanks will try this after dinner.
  • We've backed up the data but I can't find how to restore to factory settings via the computer. I can see how to do it from the phone but since we can't see the screen, I can't do it.

Can it be done via the computer?

    thanks

Yes, you can. But we are not sure that the problem is with the software at this point.

It could be a problem with the cable that connects the screen.
