Online and phone purchases are covered by the Distance Selling Regulations (DSRs). This is to give a customer time to inspect an item as they would in a shop before deciding on whether they want it or not.

As you made a purchase in a physical shop you had the chance to inspect the item before deciding to buy it, therefore you have no automatic legal right to a refund if you change your mind.

How about the cloths in the shop? People can always get full refund when they don't like the products after purchases in the shop, as long as they are still in good conditions. Why can't I have the same rights?

No people dont always get a full refund if they dont like the products - it is up to the shop. Its not a legal requirement but most shops do it as a goodwill gesture

Again it is up to you to inspect and try on the clothes before purchase.

The law says that a retailer doesn't have to refund or offer anything for a change of mind.

There are so many retailers that go above and beyond what is legally required that people assume that the law allows them to return anything they want whenever they want.

If a shop offers a refund, credit note or exchange that is more than the law says you are entitled to. If I were you I'd either keep the ring or choose a credit note or exchange before they change their mind.

The law states that unless something is faulty, you have no right to return items you buy in a shop of you change your mind.

Shops that offer refunds or credit notes are going beyond what they have to do.

Buying something online is totally different, and you get 7 working days under distance selling regulations to change your mind and return it.

    Ideally you research before buying.

Either go with the ring, or accept the credit note.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It's easy to think that you have the right to return things after changing your mind within x days because a lot of high street stores allow you to.
Your actual rights by law, though, are that you are only entitled to repair, refund, or replacement if the goods are faulty. A simple change of mind doesn't give you any return rights. The shop is being very kind to offer a credit note.

May I ask why you would buy something fairly expensive without researching other shops first?
As others have said, buying online is covered by the DSR, buying in the shop isn't. I hope you haven't bought it from the other store too or that'll be an expensive lesson in consumer rights!

There's no obligation for clothing shops (or any other type of physical shop) to offer refunds if you simply don't like the item. Some chains choose to do so to encourage customers, but they are well within their rights to refuse to give a refund (or even a credit note or exchange) if the customer has purchased the goods in the store and then simply changed their mind (as opposed to the goods being faulty).

So you do have the exactly the same "rights" as a custoner in a clothing shop. Unfortunately, in the case of getting a refund simply because you have changed your mind - that's none.
