I'm not that knowledgeable about the law on it, but I think that they are going above what they are required to do by offering you a credit note.

If you had taken it away, I don't think there would be a question - you don't have any cooling off period or refund rights unless it was faulty.
Given that you don't have it yet, I'm not sure that the contract is closed. Other people will know though.
    Good luck!

There is no cooling-off period if you purchase an item on business premises i.e a shop. You entered into a legally binding contract when you paid for the ring, so the shop has no obligation to offer you any sort of refund. They are being kind to you in offering a credit note.

Why do you feel you were ripped off? Was the ring not as described/agreed?

    Need more details.

While it sounds like OP may have asked for a refund due to a change of mind, its not entirely clear.

If the ring doesnt conform to contract then SoGA would apply and you'd be looking at repair, replacement, refund depending on the timescales involved and other details.

Yes, I have changed my mind as I found that I could find better deal in another shop.

So, I should have rights to get full refund when I haven't received the ring yet and no work is done on it?

Probably no rights to a refund for changing your mind, makes no difference if they have resized it already or not.

You can't just cancel because you have changed your mind, you have bought the ring (deal 1) and asked them to alter it (deal 2) in effect two contracts.

None whatsoever - the deal is done, you selected purchased and paid for te ring. You now have 'buyers remorse' but just because you ave not accepted delivery does not mean you can walk away from your purchase - one you have paid for.

If there were issues with quality etc, then this would need to be resolved, but a simple change of mind? Absolutely not.

There will always be a better deal or offer that appear subsequent to a purchase, but that's life. The secret is to do all research first, and then realise you're making a formal commitment.

Take an example of a mobile.

A friend of mine made a payment on-line in Amazon, and then cancelled the order a week later before the product was delivered to his home. The shop accepted his cancellation. Why is that? Jewellery is must more expensive than mobile.

In particular, they dont specify any returns policy when I bought the ring?
