Sunday 9th December 2012 -4 degrees snow and ice on the road at 07.22 am pitch dark, came to the traffic lights, turned amber put on my brake, skidded across the line and stopped 1 car length passed the line but still had another 20 feet before the junction turning the camera flashed, 4 days later a fine through the door for £90 and 3 penalty points stating I was doing
13 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone and 1 second over the white line. I appealed went to court 6 months later was there for 6 hours to give my 10 minutes of defence with photographs, weather reports and mitigation to come out with a £790 fine 3 penalty points 14 days to pay as she said otherwise the bailiffs will be round, for DOING 13 MILES PER HOUR IN A 40 MILES PER HOUR ZONE AND SKIDDING OVER THE WHITE LINE BY 1 SECOND after my forty years of driving and never so much as a pull over I think this is extremely harsh £790 FINE 3 PENALTY POINTS FOR SKIDDING BRITISH JUSTICE AT ITS BEST Any Advise or views

Why do you think you shouldn't have been penalised for breaking a traffic regulation?
If you skidded over the line and were doing 13 mph when you had been braking, then you were going too fast for the snowy conditions. It's no different to doing 60mpg in a 40mph - you were driving too fast and couldn't control your vehicle in those conditions.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I don't think you really have an option, you have to pay it. If you try an appeal (which I'm not sure you can) , it will be hugely expensive. Shame you didn't come here previously we could have told you this when it was just a £60 penalty plus the pointsWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. That's a bit silly, if there was ice or snow on the road it's conceivable that 13 mph wouldn't be much. Do you drive at a slower speed in that kind of weather? When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

I have winter tyres and drive at an appropriate speed in adverse wintery conditions. The OP was slowing down and was doing 13mph as she crossed the line. She may have slowed from 100mph or 20mph for all we know. She panic braked when the lights changed having not considered early enough what she would do if they did. So she was either going too fast/braked too late/wasn't prepared for the snowy conditions - eg not driving appropriately.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

And you know this how? We are not here to judge people, but to help them ! Being self righteous and saying this is how you do things , and basically make no mistakes doesn't help does it? Er, from the OP and basic physics. S/he says they braked, that they crossed the line and were doing 13mph. It's possible that they braked and skidded and sped up over the line, but as they came to a stop shortly over the line it's not likely. They may not have been travelling at the 40mph limit for the road, but being unable to anticipate the changing lights and stop in time indicated all was not hunkydory.
The OP doesn't feel justice was done. Why not? Had they done it in the middle of a perfectly dry sunny day would it make a difference?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
