Tv aerial, how much?

Looking at getting rid of virgin and going with freeview, but as we have been in our house for 10 years and have always had either virgin or sky, so we don't have any digital aerials, so looking to get one or two put up.

So on averge, how much should I be paying per aerial?

Thanks in advance

don't have any aerials, or don't have digital (no such thing) aerials?

If you've still got a satellite dish, you could use that for freesat

A cheap set top aerial can work reasonably well if you are in a good signal area.

Great idea thinking out the box, you would get better picture quality providing you have position to locate Dish if you don't have one, less likely than an aerial to get damaged with storms etc.

If you do have a Dish just replace LNB if old ?

As the posters said above, keep the sky dish and you then have the following options :-

1;Remove old sky card and watch most of the free to air channels.

2; Pay Sky £25 for a "freesat card" and then you can get approx 240 channels (includes radio)

    3; Buy a freesat box.

If you still want to record things then you will either need a freesat with hard drive (PVR) or...

Pay sky £10 a month to use the sky box

    Hope this helps

Wrong. You can watch ALL of the FTA channels with or without a card. The viewing card automatically because a "FreesatFromSky" card when cancelled, so it will let you watch a few encrypted channels in addition to the FTA ones. No need to buy another card.

    True, well sort of
Most areas need a wideband aerial for DTV, a lot of houses will have been fitted originally with a grouped aerial meaning a change is desirable.
Whether you want to call it a digital aerial doesn't really matter, if you need one, you need one.

grouped or wideband depends where they live http://www.ukfree.tv/maps.php?key=subregion&c=46 as it always did, sutton coldfield for example uses group b, the same as it used in the analogue era, the point is, do they have any aerial, and if so, have they tried it.

My point was that if you need to change to a wideband aerial, it doesn't really matter if you want to call it a digital aerial or not.
Some people did have to change, hence it's a bit of a moot point to them whether or not there's much difference to the equipment.
Too many cowboy installers told people they had to change, when they clearly didn't, which meant that a lot of those that did were very sceptical.
Out of 10,000+ aerials that we have, it was something like 65% of them that needed changing.

    Absolute rubbish!

Only a very small number of transmitters need a wideband aerial for digital reception.

Group A: Aberdare, Blaenplwyf, Bressay, Brougher Mountain, Caldbeck, Caradon Hill, Crystal Palace, Darvel, Divis, Durris, Eitshall, Fenham, Fenton, Hastings, Kilvey Hill, Lancaster, Pendle Forest, Pontypool, Ridge Hill ,Rowridge, Stockland Hill, Storeton, Torosay

Group B: Black Hill, Bluebell Hill, Bristol Illchester Cres, Chatton, Emley Moor, Guildford, Hannington, Heathfield, Keelylang Hill, Moel Y Parc, Presely, Redruth, Rosemarkie, Saddleworth, Sutton Coldfield, Tunbridge Wells

Group C/D: Angus, Brierley Hill, Carmel, Dover, Huntshaw Cross, Keighley, Knock More, Limvady, Malvern, Mendip, Midhurst, Oliver`s Mount, Oxford, Pontop Pike, Rosneath, Salisbury, Selkirk, Whitehawk Hill, Winter Hill

    Group K:
Bilsdale, Bromsgrove, Chesterfield, Craigkelly, Idle, Lark Stoke, Nottingham, Sandy Heath, Sheffield, The Wrekin

Group E: Beacon Hill, Bristol Kings Weston, Hemel Hempstead, Llanddona, Plympton, Sudbury, Tacolneston

Wideband: Belmont, Knock More, Reigate, Rumster Forest

A lot of your list includes areas that will need a w/b in the very near future and/or had a change of grouping during dso.

You could simply stick to the facts. Only last week the regulator Ofcom published the complete DDT frequency plan data, showing the situation at August 2013 after the digital switchover and the scheduled completion of the national 800MHz clearance program for 4G mobile use. here

This data clearly shows that out of 1157 transmitters only 12 require a wideband aerial.

Stating that "Most areas need a wideband aerial for DTV" or "will need a w/b in the very near future" is rubbish.
