OK, I would agree that spending £39.99 (or £99.99 or whatever) if you can get the goods for free sounds a bit non-MSE on the face of it.

When you then consider that you can get the equivalent of the £39.99 for free, you do wonder, however, why you would hoop through the hoops to get the freebie Kaspersky which isn't actually a freebie.

In other words - - what is so special about Kaspersky? If there truly is anything so very special about it, why does it only cost £39.99, and why do they have to enlist the marketing arm of a bank that pays pants interest to gain customers?
1.Your point is valid but the interest will be of no concern to me, as I'll spend a few minutes filling in an online form transfer only £1 into an account I'll never really use to get the premium AV software free for the next few years/decades.
2.Well I'm something of a power freak with my new PC build cost of around £1300 I'm not rich lets just say I have no social life, and Kaspersky has a long standing reputation for high detection rates over the years, basically it's clean clutter free operation no distractions.
(dr_adidas01So) what will you do if they decide not to open an account for you?

You'll have to pay for some sort of virus software or use the free one.
Go with my second choice begrudgingly Norton internet security which can be had for around £6 with the use of voucher codes and cashback but it's arguable I'd be better off using native Windows 8 defender, it's just I don't feel comfortable using my online accounts with it.

It's all very subjective really, just my opinion flawed as it is.

Can you not get the kaspersky with a savings account? The poor interest on, say £20, may be worth it for the AV, though I uninstalled it (for Avast) as it is a memory hog imho.
  • I am sure you can find a friend who uses Barclays and ask them to give you a code. Thats what i did. Barclays Kaspersky is valid for 3 PCs.

I had the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't bear the thought of a Barclay's account just for kaspersky. Somebody recommended Microsoft security essentials which is free. My runs faster with it. And it can't be that bad when there are universities which use it as their antivirus of choice! So, some more food for thought.

The post is about the free Kaspersky offer not the interest rates which Barclays offer. You will find that interest rates are generally very poor nowadays.

I think I'm leaning the same way after months of use Kaspersky security scan shows that Windows defender has done an admirable job of protecting my PC, as there is no virus/nasties on here, perhaps just supplemental AV software is needed like Avast shame about the nag wear on it tho.

My only friends are virtual, so I don't think I'll be hitting them up for free AV software, don't cry for me I have a cat and the Tv to keep me company :P

It is for 12 months but when it expires you simply log onto online banking and renew it, and a code for another 12 months is sent to your email address.

I have account with Barclays and I use their Kaspersky software for about 5 years. It saved me fortune. We use it on our PC + 2 laptops. It is easy to renew new licence and we never had any problems with it. I also have account with Halifax for their £5 and also joint account for another £5. Over the years it adds up quite a good saving.:j
Why not use it when they are offering it? I don't mind to have 2 current accounts. It is better to have 2 when banks can just freeze your money for no reason.
Got the house:j/ got mortgage for 25 y:eek:
June 2013 got married, Baby boy born 29/03/15:A
    Mortgage Nov 2012 £180,000, Jan 2016 £161,359.49:eek:

Banks don't freeze your money for no reason, its usually because they suspect fraud has been committed or funds have been removed from a persons account without permission.

Its always a good idea to have more than one bank account anyway especially in these days of technology failure, as we have seen it happen when banks systems have failed and people cant get money from there accounts.
