Opening a barclays current account just for free Kaspersky AV

Greetings all

Please Google for more info: (barclays Free internet security software)

I know there is plenty of perfectly good free Anti-virus such as Avast! 8 Avira Antivir and AVG Free out there but being a bit paranoid I have my heart set on Kaspersky.
As above I'd like to Open a barclays current account & Online Banking just for the free Kaspersky AV software the question is should I?

What are the pitfalls of setting up a bank account I never intend to use, such as credit score online safety or any barclays terms and conditions I may have overlooked?

For reference I'm already a Halifax online customer, and the maine draw for me is the possibility that this AV software will remain free for decades to come as long as I remain a "barclays customer".

Thanks for reading:)

If you are so desperate for Kaspersky, why not just buy it.

If you want Kaspersky internet then why not just buy it? to use it on one PC it will cost you £39.99.

Barclay's like HSBC like to see there accounts being used and funded, not just opened and not being used.

It would be quicker and easier to pay for it yourself!!!

The Kaspersky offer is great, in addition to this the Barclays on line banking is very highly rated in terms of security. Their packaged accounts are also very good value.

I used to have a Barclays additions account just for the RAC cover and mobile phone insurance as well as a multitude of other services. I love their mobile banking app too. As I am away from home a lot I. Need this app and have just transferred my main banking to Barclays from HSBC.

Don't Santander also offer this? Or similar.

And they pay you interest !

No they don't. But yes, they do pay more interest than Barclays - - a number of banks/BSs do.

To save money? Is this site not about this?
If you want a travel insurance, why not just buy it instead of getting it for free with Nationwide or Santander? Of course, paying for everything is always easier and quicker.

I have two accounts with them abandoned for many years with just a few minor transactions every year - and have never had any problems with this. Don't know if the fact that my mortgage is with Woolwich makes any difference.

I get your meaning there's a logic in what your saying, but there are two reasons not to buy one the RRP £39.99 is a bad joke, I even resent paying £15 off Ebay for an AV software given the ridiculously generous profit margins they make off a 3 user one year licence.

Two multiply the cost over the years and you're left feeling like a muppet but at the same time I've used multiple free AV software over the years you'll typically need one anti-virus and a firewall all of which even on a fast PC with 8gb ram is a clunky solution that can conflict with other programs and OS.

To summarize I'm too cheap/pride to buy it but at the same time I appreciate/I'm-a-hypocrite the value of an all in one AV solution of a brand name I trust Kaspersky, with added peace of mind that comes with it :D

Thanks grumbler and Bloomberg for your input, just might go a head with it.

OK, I would agree that spending £39.99 (or £99.99 or whatever) if you can get the goods for free sounds a bit non-MSE on the face of it.

When you then consider that you can get the equivalent of the £39.99 for free, you do wonder, however, why you would hoop through the hoops to get the freebie Kaspersky which isn't actually a freebie.

In other words - - what is so special about Kaspersky? If there truly is anything so very special about it, why does it only cost £39.99, and why do they have to enlist the marketing arm of a bank that pays pants interest to gain customers?

So what will you do if they decide not to open an account for you?

You'll have to pay for some sort of virus software or use the free one.

There's no guarantee they will open an account for you at the end of the day, you may not be the type of customer they are looking for.

I guess its worth a try!!!
