The inevitable result of Maggie privatising a monopoly. The companies are in a win/win situation; their revenue and hence profit is guaranteed.
No wonder their share price has soared. IIRC correctly Severn Trent shares were initially floated in 1989? at £2.40p with a discount for customers.
They have paid handsome dividends(e.g 50+p for 2013) and shareholders got a huge special dividend of £1.65 when they sold off a company(Biffa)
The directors have just turned down an offer of £23 a share.0
