You can also sign up for online billing on https://www.vodafone.co.uk. This will give you your remaining minutes, along with what your bill is running at for the month, and what calls, texts etc has been made.

I work for Voda and can tell you that on the 191 option, theres an option on the automated service called a account balance checker. When you select this item, a txt message will automatically be sent to your phone with your balance and remaining minutes left!
