On the cards I have, the RFID is a separate chip on the card and can be disabled by a quick blow with a hammer.
On newer cards it is said that the contactless is built into the main chip so you have to disconnect the antenna by drilling through the tracks. Sometimes you can see these tracks by holding the card upto a bright light.0 -

Only Pre-EMV cards that are contactless have an RFID only chip (Ie. US cards). Otherwise it wouldn't be able to communicate with the main chip, asking for a PIN every often.0 -
Curiouser and curiouser - I've now had a text from RBS stating that "as requested", my replacement debit card will be issued within 24 hours. I suspect this is actually what the assistant did on Friday, and that he somewhat misunderstood, or at least miscommunicated the info to me. Oh well - I'll see what turns up
(This would seem to confirm what a couple of people have said though - that you can't disable the contactless facility on an existing card.):j Married my lovely man on 29th June 2013 :j0 -
Is the first statement true? In which case, many of us must surely be safe from these false transactions already.
In fact, it's broader than just another contactless card, it's any other card using the technology.
I can't use my contactless card if it's in my wallet with my work ID. I imagine that the presence of an Oyster card would also mean neither card would work.0 -
That 2 contactless cards in the same wallet cannot be read - is widely reported to be true.
Cutting into the antenna with a hacksaw - was suggested somewhere like wikipedia, but I haven't tried it. Don't saw into your Oyster card!!
Merchant might see the saw cut and be suspicious? Unlikely, very few merchants actually handle the card where chip & pin is used.
Mutilate the chip? - I wouldn't try that. It would probably disable the chip & pin function.0 -

Except on the underground and on buses that accept contactless payments.
As Transport for London says and has been reported by the media and customers. If you have your oyster card and contactless debit card in the same wallet, peoples debit cards are being charged and not there oyster card.
So there advising not to keep your oyster card and contactless debit card in the same wallet.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

I've been using contactless almost daily since February and i've never been asked for a PIN.
I think if you use your card with the PIN in between your contactless purchases it resets the counter.
And to the original poster about getting your Contactless "Disabled".
Not going to happen im afraid, you'll be getting a new card.0 -
Yep, I've got a new card, and it hasn't got contactless payment tech. The fibbers.:j Married my lovely man on 29th June 2013 :j0

If the reader detects two cards at the same time it will probably reject both and display an error.
The problem is that you can't guarantee that both cards will be read -- due to their different positions in your wallet and manufacturing tolerances, one may respond whilst the other doesn't. In that case, which ever card responded will be charged.0 -

All new offline debit cards issued from April onwards will be contact less if your identified as an eligible customer otherwise it will be just a normal debit card. So if your card was issued afte April I would assume you do not fit the criteria for the card type.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
