Stolen bank card

Good grief:(
DD had purse pinched from a horse showground onFriday with money, her bank card and provisional driving licence. when she noticed the purse had gone she rang her bank & cancelled the card. she was told that there had been no activity on the account for the past few days. Left it at that until she opened a letter from the bank this morning (which came yesterday and was dated last friday) confirming her new overdraft limit !!! The overdraft was for in excess of 1,000 !!! she rang the bank and they said that the overdraft was upped on Friday and the full overdraft plus what was in her account withdrawn !! this was apparently from a branch of her bank near the showground and a good 40 miles from her actual own branch !!! Now there is no one in 'fraud' who she can speak to until tomorrow. Cannot believe that a branch would allow such a thing to happen - and why did the bank not inform DD once they were aware the card had been stolen.
I am fuming to say the least

A cancelled card doesn't stop a customer applying for an overdraft.
Unfortunately it wasn't the customer in this case.
The bank will stand the loss. Annoying that it's happened, but your daughter won't be out of pocket.
Somebody claiming to be your daughter and able to confirm personal details from the driving licence? It's very believable.Cannot believe that a branch would allow such a thing to happen
A good act of being your daughter in distress. You'd have wanted them to help if it really had been your daughter.0 -
Will be closing the account once this is sorted and going to another bank. their customer service over this weekend has been nothing short of despicable0

It is one problem with carrying ID with you, as they basically have all of your details but at the same time when your younger you need ID.0

We need a little more information me thinks - how was the cash withdrawn?
If chip and pin - how did the thief know what it was?
Did the withdrawal take place before or after the card was reported missing?0 -

They withdrew the cash over the counter apparently after they asked for the overdraft to be increased. the withdrawal took place around30 mins before the card was reported stolen, but when she rang to cancel the card they said there had been no activity on the account that day, as the card could have been missing for a couple of hours before she noticed her purse had gone0 -

I don't know anything other than what the bank said was on record today. They wouldnt have her pin number
Will have to see what fraud dept say tomorrow, and also calling into my daugher's own bank branch to see whats been happening0 -
Over the counter withdrawals at my bank require the card to be put into a card reading machine and the pin number entered.
How did the fraudster know the pin number unless DD also kept that noted down on paper in the purse?
If that was the case, she has failed to meet the security requirements because T&Cs will state that the pin number should always be kept separately from the card.0
