what other causes are there for late period besides pregnancy?

Hi,
Didn't know where to put this.
Ive been off the pill (not because I wanted to get pregnant, other reasons.) for almost a year so my periods have settled into a regular pattern untill the last few months when theyve started to come a few days later in the month each month..now this month I am over 2 weeks late compared to dates a few months back! Ive had all the usual symptoms of pms that I always get but no sign of period apart from a spot of blood last week.

About 4 or 5 weeks ago I started a running programme for beginners, doing this 3,sometimes 4 times a week..could this be the reason why im late?

Is there any chance you could be pregnant ? Have you done a pregnancy test ? The reason I ask is there is something called an implantation bleed that can sometimes happen to women when the egg implants to the lining of the womb , admittedly it has never happened to me in any of my pregnancies . Are there any other signs , needing to wee more , tender boobs etc . Sometimes stress can play a major factor in wether your periods turn up on time . Just to give you an idea of how irregular they can be I had a period 24th Jan nothing till the 9th March , had a positive test 11th April , started to miscarry 25th April and have had nothing since then . I think the only sure fire way of finding out anything is if you take a test , I highly recommend sainsbury's own brand , have had early positive results in all my pregnancies using this brand .

Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

I am abit reluctant to take a test and waste money cos my symptoms feel exactly the same as every other time im due on!...Yes my boobs are tender and huge but that is normal every month for me unfortunately!
I don't feel pregnant either (ive already got 2 so I know)

Just had a thought , go to your doctors and say you think you are pregnant and they will send off a urine sample and that way you get a free test , only downside is you have to wait a few days for the results . You see I feel exactly the same wether pregnant or not , tender boobs , need to wee more , cramping feeling etc . Wilkinson's do cheap tests , about £1.99

Forgot to say I didn't feel pregnant this last time , I have 2 girls and from the second I fell to the second I gave birth I threw up constantly but this last pregnancy , albeit I wasn't pregnant for more than 6 weeks , but I never once threw up so I reckon the baby I miscarried was a boy as they say you carry boys better than girls .

Endometriosis - I was never regular when I had it.

Took me 3 months to work out I was pregnant when I was, had many before, so decided to wait till I had gone over my longest period between bleeds.

So glad I have had it all removed, gave me 30 years of hell, except the second trimester of my pregnancy and breastfeeding time - I feel so sorry for women who have trouble with their hormones/female parts. It really affects EVERYTHING else!

yeah endometriosis is another reason.god knows how i didn't remember this, as i had to have a hysterectomy due to it 3 years ago.Having said that you can also get flooding with endo as well as a lot of pain:rolleyes:

I went to my GP after my periods were all over the place for a few months, and I have since been diagnosed with PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome.

  • Excessive exercise is one reason. I stopped having periods for over a year when I was exercising a lot.

It is possible it has shocked your body. If you aren't pregnant, I would look at your diet and exercise and reduce it down in case that is the cause.
