Probably SPAM. Avoid those 2 links...

Use the other online tyre sites and also see how your local indy tyre places compare.

  • Further to advice I wrote earlier about MOTs and Tyres

Forgot to mention that it is best advice to replace tyres in pairs at the same time. That is : tyres of the same make on the same axle.
  • This is just my experience and view for a peugeot 308 1.6 diesel.

I bought the budget brand tyres which lasted about 36,000 but now I have been buying the michelin energy saver + I got 60,000 miles out of my last set. Although the budget tyres make you an initial money saving, from my perspective you have to replace them more regularly and for me it was working out more expensive over a 3 year period.

One last thing, the fuel economy for budget brand tyres I believe is worse than the current set of Michelins I am on. Its really difficult to prove this though because the driving and weather conditions will have been different for each set of tyres but my feeling is that it is about 1-2MPG worse with the budget tyres.

Hope my perspective helps some people when deciding which tyres to go for. Maybe other people have a different experience on the subject of premium versus budget tyres. I would be interest to know?
  • I always play the ebay game, easy peasy. I can get 2 (a pair) of 225/45/17 Avon ZV5 94Y Extra load Tyre Brand New for £120 and that's including delivery, take them to my local ATS and they'll fit them (valve and balance for a tenner each). Mind you you can get Dunlops, Continentals, Michelins, Hankook for the same on ebay and sometimes cheaper if you have a ferret around. An online tyre retailer called blackcircles are ok and asda tyres are very good, Costco can be ok (depending on their offers) and dont forget to look for a voucher code for online tyre retailers
  • I found the quickest way to find cheap tyres is to do a google search using their shopping section search. Just put in the tyre size you are looking for and a whole list of potentially sellers are listed for you to review and choose.

I searched for 205/55r15 This format tends to work for tryes.

    Hope this helps

I just phone 2 of the local independent tyre places and goto the
cheapest or the one with stock who can fit it now.

    Excellent prices.

How about a 175x13 8ply commercial radial Nankang trailer tyre
for £43 all in. I thought that was good even the online places seemed
    to want £44 without fitting.

The only one that i remember coming close would have been shipped
    from Poland.

  • I'm looking for a cheap part worn tyre in size 185/60/15/H84.

And both tyre links above are the same company under 2 different banners.

You can get a brand new Sailun 185/60R15 84H from asda tyres for £38 - fitted

But the Michelins are more than twice the price of the budget brands so I'm not sure how this works.

I must say I don't like the idea of running a tyre for 60,000 miles anyway. It's not just a question of tread; the tyre's carcass also has to be taken into account, and I'm not sure I'd trust the integrity of a tyre that had been run for so many miles.

Plus, the Michelin fuel-saving tyres have poor grip in my experience, worse than a lot of the cheap tyres.

Just my opinion though, none of us will agree on these things.

Hey wonderful top tip I tried that and found some incredibly cheap tyres.

However when I got to the tyre centre they wouldn't fit on my 18" rims.

How do I get a refund?
  • Tyreleader offer me very good deals on what I am looking for. But be aware you have to arrange & pay for them to be fitted separately, but I've never found this a problem.
