Hi all,
we have decided to try package holidays this year, we havnt had a package holiday for years, we have tended to buy look at where we fancy then look for a hotel and get a flight to suit etc, however after last year we thought we would try a package deal, we are off to icemelar in Turkey, we are staying at the aqua hotel, we had never tried all inclusive before and hubby has always fancied it so we booked all inclusive
up until we went to Benidorm we were looking forward to it, but now we are kinda dreading it, when we were in Benidorm we were full board and were bored with the food straight away, we arnt big drinkers so the idea of all day/night drinking doesnt appeal to us either, maybe its because we had such a horrible time in Benidorm but we are dreading going to turkey,
can anyone share any ideas of things to do in icemelar ? what types of food to try etc
thanks in advance

Hi we have been to Icmeler a couple of years ago there were 8 of us had a wonderfull time would deffinately go back but there are so many other places to see but maybe for a cheap week
We stayed in the old town just close enough to walk into town but reasonably quiet the resteraunts are all pretty much the same and very reasonable most will send a taxi for you
anything else just ask0 -
thanks tired mum,
is it quiet? we found when we were in Benidorm it was a little britain, there were a lot of stag and hen parties, dont get me wrong i am glad that there is a place where the stag and hen parties can go to, but it really wasnt for us at all
i think we are scared that we land up in the same type of place that we were in in Benidorm0 -
Its reasonably quiet not like Benidorm at all the local busses are really cheap and easy to use just tell them where you want to stop and they will. we had 4 teens with us and they loved it there we were in quite a small complex and got to know the owners well they even took us to the mountains for a traditional meal we were the only foreiners there it was lovely a good site to check out is Icmeler on line they have a forum loads of pics and tips Marmaris is a bit like Benidorm we only went once for the teens to get there designer gear we used the water taxi from the harbour
The main bugbear is the airport major rip off prices for food check out trip advisor !!0 -
Thanks ... How was the food ?0

The trick to not getting bored with All Inc food is to not have everything in one go. Have a different dish every evening, instead of some people I've seen having a bit of everything every night and then complaining they're bored with it.
i personally think the best bit about it is being in a resort abroad and not having to pull out €20 every time you want a G&T each.
Another rule is generally (not always though) the larger the hotel, the better the food will be, mainly because they have enough guests to offer a wider variety without wasting masses.0 -
Thanks OTB that makes a lot of sense, we did do the try a bit of everything at the hotel we were at just there and got fed up of the food almost straight away, will deff do as you suggest this time around
We don't really drink much alcohol ( although to be fair when we were in Benidorm we didn't have much else to do so we did drink more than we would have liked )
I think tbh I'm probably just panicking tbh as Benidorm was ( for us) hell on earth .. I know others love it and I'm not trying to knock any one ... But it really just wasn't for us

You might get one or two tips from this thread off TA...

It's early in the season, but still some good stuff.0 -
Take a trip to Turunc - just round the bay from Ichmeler - go by boat because the road trip is a bit hairy (but fabulous views around the coast). It's much smaller than Ichmeler with plenty of lovely restaurants (at least there were when we were there 4 years ago!).
A visit to Marmaris left us feeling thankful that we were heading straight back to the calm of Turunc - although the old town and market area are worth seeing - the boat trip there and back is lovely too.
Good Turkish food is gorgeous - try everything! Turkish mezes and local dishes/fish/roasts/stews etc. are easily far superior to the "english style" offerings - invariably served with frozen fries, tinned mixed veg and the obligatory bit of parsley/something green...
Enjoy your holiday whatever you enjoy

i stayed just outside marmaris centre a few years ago.
used the water taxis to go to ichmeler and marmaris, also the little buses as mentioned are cheap and regular. we also walked to ichmeler from where we stayed, along the water front
although we stayed all inclusive (at the gran pasa) we still used to have odd meals out, the marina area at marmaris was pleasant.
we also enjoyed a day trip to rhodes0 -
The little buses are called Dolmus. The ones for each destination are a different colour.
Between Icmeler and Marmaris they're orange, and run very frequently. The route goes all along the Marmaris hotel 'strip', and turns left into town at the Ataturk statue. Get off the dolmus there, walk past Ataturk and you soon arrive at the very pleasant marina area.
Between Marmaris and Turunc they're white. This dolmus calls at Icmeler at the bottom of the hill where the Wednesday market is. The dolmus trip to Turunc goes up, up, up, and down, down, down to Turunc, and is a thrill ride. But so long as the 'jockey' has said his prayers you'll be alright.;)
Another useful dolmus is the green one which you can catch along the hotel 'strip', and it terminates at the Marmaris Otogar (bus station). The green dolmus is useful if you want a day out on a big bus.
We really enjoyed Icmeler, but we went out of season when the walk along the coastal path to Marmaris was a pleasure to do. In the heat and humidity of summer I'd imagine it's not really a pleasant option.0
