Np Power bill

We got a letter from NPower last October saying that our electricity had been undercharged for the past 5 years due to getting the night rate and day rate mixed up and that they could only charge us for the last years underpayment.
I looked at the energy usage and apparently our electric use went from an average of about 300 Kwh upto Nov 2011 to 9000KWH between Dec 2011 to Oct 2012. How can this be right? and how can I find out whats gone wrong? as our payments have now almost doubled to pay for this underpayment.

I forgot to mention my latest bill seems to have doubled from the last one even though my consumption seems to be the same.
I can't see the bill online as for some reason there are problems with this.0 -
300kWh over what period? That's a tiny amount. And 9,000Kwh over 10 months is also quite low as a total.
You need to give the annual totals on both and the day/night split to make sense of this.
But I wouldn't grumble too much, as it appears that you've avoided paying for 4 years of under-billing.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
300kwh per month and then 9000kwh per month0
-
Quite a puzzle
300 Kwh a month, ( 3,600 Kwh a year), equates to the use in the average family home that has Gas Central heating and does not use Elec for Heat & Hot water
9,000 Kwh a month, even for just the 6 winter months ( 54,000 Kwh) is 4 times higher than what would be expected in an ECO7 home with Elec Hot Water & Heating
You really need to go back to n'power and demand they send copies of every bill they have issued over the last 5 years - Go through them to see the Start & End meter readings are consistant, and then by reverseing the Day/Night readings, work out what you have paid v what you owe0 -
Hi,
This is my first post!
I'm in a bit of a pickle. Since moving flat last year our gas and electricity has sky rocketed even though I don't believe we use any more than we previously did.
I share my flat with my boyfriend and were both out at work from 7am till about 7pm. My latest bill for 6 months usage has come in at £1018. I can't catch my breathe.
We can't get to the bottom of why our bills are so high. Our last one was about £700. Npower tell me our usage is 'average' but I don't see how and to be honest they're not very helpful.
I will eventually switch suppliers but I need to clear this massive bill before I can so i feel trapped and am now spending more money on this than anything else (apart from rent).
Does anyone have and tips or advice as it would be much appreciated. This situation is really stressing me out and the cause of no end of tears!
Thanks0 -

They are based on actual readings. This matter has been ongoing for a while and no one can get to the bottom of why we are using so much. I have spoken with your team on several occasions and each time I'm told this is a normal consumption but I can't see how when my parents use a lot less in a three bed house with central heating.
We don't have central heating but storage heaters which we have never used due to the cost. We can't even afford to have the emersion heater on for hot water. I has never considered hot water a luxury before but this is what is has become.
