Move to the middle east (Dubai?) for a 0 hour, 6 month contract? That is clearly nuts. If you're doing 'consultancy', this means that any 'bench time' comes out of your pocket. When I started with my firm 2 years ago - i was on the bench quite a lot for the first 6 months since they were trying to fit me into roles. I hope they've got some definite project work for you lined up
Sounds like they want man-power cheaply0 -

I had a friend work in Dubai, and when he quit, they just didn't pay him any more. You have to be prepared to leave the country immediately if you quit. Same thing goes if you're sacked. Also, you might need to pay rent 6 months in advance out there - or, the landlord can ask for all the rent within the contract if you loose your job.
Personally, i'd be asking for a flight out there, an open return ticket (if such exists) and a salary of about £6k a month.. i would expect a laptop/phone/mobile internet card and business expenses for travel to client sites. But I'm worth itPlus I know how much they pay out there

I have worked in Dubai and Qatar in the Pearl Quarter.
On thing they always tempt you with is the fact it is tax free and therefore more than it would be at home but it is expensive out there. There is also the fact that you can still be taxed back here still. If I was working out there I would want what you mention above and a minimum of 40K plus 10K housing or 50K for simple terms. My work pays far more but that is a minimum0 -
Need more than 6k out there.

Wait it's not Dubai it's Istanbul where I'm getting sent0

Also. just noticed the contract says how many hours I'm "required" to work. but at the same time in the payment section does not define a minimum pay but instead says that my pay would be calculated according to the amount of hours I do and any change would be deducted. it defines a maximum pay but not a minimum0

Put in writing what you require and submit it to them for a decision.
Sounds like they are playing you at the moment.
Are the an established company?0 -
I am not a business. I'm just a candidate.
Since they're talking about a limited budget they have, I sent them an analysis showing how I might be able to actually decrease other expenses - for example, being a local rep, they won't have to send the regional manager to visit clients (that was not on the job description)
would be be a smart move to formally reject the offer - and then maybe they'll reconsider ? I mean do English or European companies do that or would they be too pride to try a better offer ?0
