You cannot do a chargeback. PayPal is the entity you paid NOT the vendor, so a chargeback (if an incompetent staffer processes it) means you'll get a Paypal default on your credit file.
They should (if you ask) decline any chargeback as payments made via any intermediary are not allowed to be treated in this way.
As to the issue itself - someone purporting to be the owner has reported it stolen, this may not be the vendor. I came across one case where a phone had been sold on twice in 2 years, and it was the original owner who was getting back to his 'friend' for not giving it back.0 -

This is a misconception that keeps cropping up on these boards.
There is no legal reason why a chargeback cannot be processed by your card issuer (whether it's either a credit or debit card that has been used).
Paypal themselves give guidelines as to how to help avoid losing money due to chargebacks, and I myself have had to defend a chargeback when a buyer claimed that the item I had sold him had not arrived after 2 months.
He was well out of time for a paypal dispute so he went directly to his credit card company.
It is only "section 75" claims that are invalidated due to 3rd party payment processors being involved, but chargemacks can be attempted as they are not a legal right and it is up to individual card issuing companies.0 -
Just a little warning, people have been taking out contract phones, selling them, then reporting them stolen a couple of days later.
The result is a blocked phone for you and a replacement for the seller though their insurance. It happened to my friend 2 months ago.0 -
Pinkshoes could be right here (re the seller waiting then claiming) so is there anyway you can contact the network, tell them you bought it in good faith and have had use of it from (date of sale) to (date blocked) and you are now concerned that the phone may have been blocked and that an insurance fraud has now been committed.
Presumably you have information on your ebay account which shows the sale?Just a little warning, people have been taking out contract phones, selling them, then reporting them stolen a couple of days later.
