why so expensive and awful food?

I just dinned at Mickey's fish and chips shop, near Borough station.
The grilled fish was so overcooked. The fries were as if they reheated them in the microwave. The olives had no taste at all, neither salty or acidic. Total rubbish. And I paid 15 pounds.
Fish and chip shops can be very hit and miss. You are better off asking locals which ones they recommend.0 -

well, due to my origin, I enjoy greek cuisine, but what I found here in London to supposedly be greek cuisine, is a nightmare
I enjoy grilled meat, grilled fish, cooked meat with salsa, italian food (but most of them are too expensive for what they offer, ie a plate of pasta or a piece of bread with salamis), I recently tasted chinese in an all you can eat buffet restaurant for 8 pounds and it was surprisingly nice
I would generally go for mediterranean cuisine, greek, spanish, italian, cypriot, turkish
I have heard good yummy things about eastern european cuisine, which I would also consider
what also astonishes me in London is that you can't find a place to drink coffee or beer or to eat after 11pm, which is shame
also, not too many bakeries with salty pastries and not too many sweets shops (excluding the numerous costa, starbucks, nero, greggs branches with boring stuff)
the whole food thing is disappointing here, but I am still optimistic that I just havent found the little secret places where food worths
it's just like in Greece, if you go to the famous places for souvlaki, you will eat rubbish, instead a secret shop in a not famous street can deliver (not literally)0 -
There must be a few Greek restaurants in London. I have been to one or two many years ago.
I think English taste buds are quite different to Greek, well more upbringing in foods.
Most brits will be scared by feta, haloni, hummous.0 -
yeah I wonder why britons are afraid of strong tastes
naturally, salty taste is common in most animals0 -
What part of London do you live in?
I think the Greek and Turkish areas are in North London.0 -
Knock-offs are usually bad.. if you want cheap and tasty food I'd say go to KFC, McDonalds etc. But then it's not that healthy, so maybe you should go to a store and buy some food and cook it yourself - usually a lot more worth the cost.0

To be fair, the OP did say they wanted quality food.0 -
