Virgin Trains is 49% owned by Stagecoach (who run South West Trains and East Midlands Trains, and, of course the buses around the country).

Virgin Australia is 49% owned by a Japanese/Chinese airline.

Virgin put their name to everything but the Virgin Group used to have the controlling share. That way, Mr Branson can have his brand awareness but the company is financed by someone else.

He only cares about Virgin Atlantic (his first real business venture) and Virgin Records (his first company), everything else is a bore to him now. While he took the government to court for the West Coast Mainline route, this is only because he wants the East Coast. However if Virgin were not in charge of the WCML then there would effectively be no Virgin Rail Group to bid for the EC route.

But thanks for the info :)
