Orange pay as you go question

hi all, i have had a contract phone paid for me by my work, now they are changing the system and they will supply a phone and pay the contract directly.

previously i paid 30% of the bil and they paid the rest, I have now decided that I need a personal phone as well as my work phone.

so, my current iphone is locked to orange.

i am not a heavy user, apart from texts sent to my partner when out with my work and i like having a phone in case of break downs . emergencies.

i have decided to get a pay as you go sim with orange, if i top up £10 will i lose that credit after a month, so in effect i have to top up £10 even if i dont use the phone?

so basically does the unused amount of credit roll over to the next month?

    No you keep the credit.

You maybe better off with a sim only deal.
That will give you data to use.

As Andy says, you keep the credit.

But after a month you lose all the 'free' texts, minutes, data ect. So you might find that if you don't topup your iPhone will use all that credit in a few days unless you switch off all the app updating...

I'm on the Racoon tariff, which is the basic text/phone one. The PAYG credit does not expire after a month. If you want to use data, you will probably want to buy an Extra because otherwise it will eat up money - there are various different Extras at different prices, but they do all expire after a certain time, depending on which one you have bought.

hi, so if i choose dolphin tarrif and pay £10, i get the extras until the time expires, then i go back down to zero.

the dilemma is that if i am going to pay £10 a month, i may as well pay an extra £15 and get a new phone and a similar amount of credit / data. what would you do.

    Hi,

If you can afford it, you might want to consider a £50 top up (or £40 if you've already got a £10 balance) and joining ReadyDeal50 on any Orange PAYG deal - so stick on Dolphin if the 100MB of data and 400 free texts are worthwhile.

Provided the ready deal re-use existing credit option continues to work, you'll never need to top up again!

In return for using £50 of credit, You get £10 top up added every month for the next 6 months. On Dolphin, you'll get 400 texts and 100MB as a top up reward so not touch your balance unless you do anything chargeable. In 6 months, do it again with the same credit. You effectively end up accuring £20 of "free" credit every year for as long as Orange continue to allow this.

(leaving aside Stuart's loophole) - no it's not quite like that - the way I understand it, with Dolphin you top up with credit which you can spend on minutes/texts/data as you like, but if you top up £10 in the month they will give you a reward of free text & internet. The reward will expire at the end of the month, but the top up credit lasts until you use it up.

You haven't said enough to know whether you should go for a top up or a new phone on a contract. A lot depends on whether you actually want a new handset? For a low user, I doubt that Orange has the cheapest tariffs around. A lot depends on what your priorities are, what your budget is, and how much you think you will use the phone.

As I said the answer is in between.
    Sim only.
Pay from £7 a month and get an allowance.
You only tied in for 30 days.
