Tax Credits are paid for the current time, however they are based on your previous year's earnings.
If your current earnings increase and you do not inform HMRC then you will be in an overpaid situation when it comes to the annual Tax Credit renewal. So you have to inform HMRC immediately of any change to your income, if your income has increased then they will immediately reduce your Tax Credit payments. However, if your income goes down you may find they are not so keen to increase your Tax Credit payments !
