concurrent payments allowed?

i've been in receipt of tax credits for the last 2 months for the year 2011/12 and am due to get my renewal through for 2012/2013 soon - my income did increase from around 5,000 in 11/12 to 10,100 in 12/13

will i be able to claim both payments at the same time or am i up the creek with regards to the 11/12 payments?

What do you mean by "both payments at the same time"? Your 11/12 payments should have been paid in 11/12, maybe with an adjustment when you did your renewal in Apr-Jun 12. Why would you expect to get any payments for 11/12 now? Presumably you were getting tax credits in 12/13 too?

because of a townhalls in the application process, i had to apply for the 3rd time in march 2013 for the previous years tax credits (11/12). therefore, i am now in receipt of tax credits for what i earned in year 11/12 at £50/week. i am waiting for forms through to apply for tax credits for what i earned throughout tax year 12/13

i have yet to apply for 12/13.

when i do apply got 12/13, will i be able to receive 11/12 AND 12/13, or will 12/13 replace 11/12?

I don't understand what you're saying. Normally tax credits can only be backdated a month, so if you applied in March 2013 they'll only backdate to Feb 2013. When did you first apply? Was it in the 2011/12 year and they screwed up?

Or are you confusing which year the tax credits apply to? You declare the previous year's income and they use that as a starting point but the tax credits are for the current year and the final award is based on your circumstances at the current time, though a combination of previous year and current year income.

When did you first apply and what happened?

it seems that the OP is cpnfusing the fact that tax credits are based on the previous years income (11/12) with the period that they are being paid for ( 12/13)

OP... you arent being paid tax vewdita for 11/12 but for 12/13. when you renew they will look at your income for 12/13 but you will be paid for the tax year 13/14

What I'm getting at is that I have only recently started being paid for 12/13 using 11/12's income - I've essentially gone a year without receiving anything for 12/13, having only received my first payment for 12/13 in April 2013 (forms submitted & dated march 2013)

As we're now a year on and I'll be applying for 13/14 on 12/13's income, will I be able to be in receipt of both concurrently?

    no.
your 12/13 payments ( based on 11/12 imcome) will be finalised, and future payments will be based on 12/13 earnings

Tax credits can only be backdated a month, if you applied in March 2013 then it will only be backdated to Feb 2013. So you'll only get a couple of months worth of payments for 2012/13.

I got around £2,600 awarded and therefore receive just over £50/week - so that'll stop? Gutted - I had plans for that wonga.

    Ah well.

I think you are confused about how tax credits operate. When you applied in March 2013 you were in the 12/13 tax year. They paid you based on your 11/12 income.

From April 2013, your payments will continue into the 13/14 tax year. You will then receive some renewal forms. These finalise your 12/13 claim and act as a claim for the 13/14 year. Once you do this, your 13/14 payments will be confirmed and you will keep on getting paid.

You will have had your 12/13 payments, now you are getting your 13/14 payments. Why would you think you would be in receipt of both?
