Ventilation in downstairs loo - opinions please.

We currently have a downstairs loo that has no extraction or ventilation (but is a decent size) in a room that was created to be used as a separate annex by the previous owners.
We are reconfiguring the house and that room will become the new hall from the main entrance, and the loo will be the principle downstairs facility. I'm sure building regs will have something to say about the lack of extraction, but I really don't like the fact there is no window for ventilation - my husband doesn't seem to have a problem with it!
We could put an opaque glass window in one of the walls and have it facing towards a back door, so it won't be seen much, but it's extra cost.
Am I being over the top here? Would you be bothered by this?
Thanks for reading.

Just fit an extraction fan. Should be cheaper than a window.0

Cheap isn't the only consideration.
Some people are quite happy with a cloakroom that has no window, but I avoid the one we have, as I feel claustrophobic in there.
It sounds like this potential window you speak of would be internal, so an extractor would still be needed.0 -
Wouldn't a box of matches be cheaper?!0

The advantage of a decent extractor fan over a window is that it stops the smells escaping into the house, if you had it connected into the light then it will always run when required.0

Murphydog,
You should have some means of ventilation in there.
I suggest you consider sticking in what's known as a continous duty extractor fan. These fans work all the time and use very little electric
The ones I fit are the Nuaire Genie X type and they work well
there are lots of others out there too, but these are the ones I have experience of
Good luck
DDThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
Looks like I'm being oversensitive then. I agree completely about the extractor as an absolute minimum, might make do with a large mirror instead of the window.0

You should make sure that any open window or extraction fan from a toilet is not venting onto any neighbour of yours.0

As is does not comply with building regulations. Some form of natural or mechanical ventilation is reguired, 3 air changes /hour rateYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
