Is this a fair price for a boiler install?

  • Had exactly the same boiler fitted in my late father's house approx 3 years ago and not one single problem. I think a problem with combi boilers is they are so much more sophisticated than the old boilers so the standard of installation is way more critical to their reliability.

PS And Wywth, I wholeheartedly agree about reviewcentre, just had a look on there and ruddy hell if you checked out that site before buying anything you would end up living in a cave.

the main problem you have with boilers today is not the boiler but with the poor installation and lack of servicing. Modern boilers are low water content which means a small amount of sludge can cause major problems. This is why an old system needs flushing very well before fitting a new boiler.

older boilers were not low water content and have large water ways so sludge causes alot less breakdowns.

They've ironed out the worst of the problems on the ecotecs with disintegrating burner seals and leaking / blocking flexible rubber hoses. The pcbs are a little flakey and they use a fairly standard heat exchanger design which won't tolerate dirt. They are a well built boiler though and long lasting with routine maintenance.

They are, allegedly, having major problems with the new gas valves on the Ecotec 2.

Similar problems to the Baxi GA boilers/valves
