Credit files, defaults, dates... Arghh!

Recently looked into getting a mortgage but realised how stringent lenders are and don't look favoureable upon poor credit history. After review of my credit file, my husband and I have decided to wait one more year to improve my credit and get a bigger deposit. So I have a few questions and would be greatful of any comments. Here goes....
I have 3 defaulted accounts. Defaults registered in 2007, 2008 and 2010. The first two are satisfied however the 2010 still has a balance I pay a bit off each month but will now attempt to pay in full now I realise an unsatisfied default looks worse (I though a default was a default, satisfied or not!) so my question is what date will these defaults fall off my credit file? Date of default OR date satisfied?
I have 4 loan accounts that were taken out in 2006/07 (no defaults) which are settled. When do these accounts disappear?
Do "active" accounts ie: my current account, credit card... stay on my file for as long as I use them.
Apart from the unsatisfied default all else on my credit file is positive. Well managed accounts with no late payments within the last 12 months.
Also, I married my husband a year ago and I have refrained from linking myself to him financially as he has an unblemished credit history. I currently view my credit report in my maiden name. How to I change my name to reflect my married name and will this have a positive/negative impact or non at all??
I am desperate to do everything possible to repair my history in the next 12 months so any advice/comments are appreciated

Defaulted accounts are removed 6 years from the default date, settled or not.
Accounts that are not defaulted are instead removed 6 years from the settlement date.
Current active accounts remain indefinitely while active, after which the above applies.
Regards change of name, contact the CRA with proof. For example: http://experian.metafaq.com/help/Statutory/Credit_report/name_changeFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi I looked at the link above. I see that experian are a member of GAIN - share adresses of people who have moved leaving debt and no forwarding address. Question is if someone applies for their credit file and have done this will experian let their creditors know.0
