help needed with Motorola V220

I am trying to connect my motorola v220 to my computer.
I have the data lead and the programs which I can get running on my Windows ME pc. The problem is that some of the programs for transfering games etc can only work on an XP.
I do have a laptop that is on XP but I cannot (and have tried tirelessly) install and mobile phone tools program on that machine. It just does not see the phone.
I have tried all the drivers I can find and all the upgrades available.
If anybody vcan point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.
